Excited to come back and try more of their options.
First: The menu board describes all the ingredients of a sandwich but doesn’t mention anything standard like lettuce, tomato, and mayo. Second: They employ the assembly line process, which works great for Jersey Mike’s and Jimmy John’s, but not so well at Potbelly’s. One person takes the order, and a second person starts the sandwich and toasts it. Then a third person completes the sandwich. At this point you can add things to your sandwich from a list. But by the time you get to this third person, they don’t seem to know what you’ve ordered. Nor do they ask any questions other than “what do you want on it.”
My first order was takeaway – a chicken Mediterranean sandwich with no spicy hummus. The sandwich was super dry because of no hummus. Yes, I neglected to ask for mayo or Italian dressing off their list, but maybe they could have prompted me (“any mayo or dressing on this?”)
My second order was dine in, a BLTA. I’m thinking, this should be a no brainer. Person #3 asked me what I ordered. I said BLTA. She asked what I wanted on it and I, thinking “well she knows I’ve ordered a BLTA,” said lettuce, tomato and mayo. The result was no avocado on a BLTA. Again, I could have been prompted: “You do want the avocado too, right?” And if I hadn’t said mayo, would she have added it? Mayo is a standard component on that sandwich.
So while the food is pretty good and the atmosphere very nice, I’m not sure how many more times I’m going to go and end up with a sandwich that is not what I expected. Not sure I like this trial-and-error thing, when the menu board could be better designed and the staff take more of a role in helping customers through the process.
