Social Profile:

Coffee shop in Terra Alta,WV. Dine-in, carry out, local pastries, bagged coffee available for sale. Portland Coffee located in Terra Alta is in the Portland District of Preston County, West Virginia. Terra Alta was originally known as Portland when the city was founded in the 1800s amid a cranberry glade. At that time, the railroad stopped nine times a day, carrying shoppers, business people, and locals to enjoy the town’s banks, clothiers, restaurants, churches, and grocers. We envision this to be a place to meet neighbors, make amends, celebrate milestones, and enjoy the best of Preston County.

I happened upon this place while visiting the Kingwood/Terra Alta area, and I love it!

The staff are awesome, and I enjoyed the chat this morning!

A hidden gem in Terra Alta, with seating on the ground floor and upstairs. It has a down home feeling and a phone booth! The coffee is great, and they have locally sourced baked goods if you are hungry.

I recommend Portland Coffee WV to anyone! I will definately be back!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Hidden Gem! World-Class Coffee with the Warmest Welcome in WV
If you think you need to fly to the Pacific Northwest to get a truly phenomenal cup of coffee, think again. I recently stopped at Portland Coffee in Terra Alta, and I am completely blown away. This place is an absolute treasure!
First, let’s talk about the quality. As someone who appreciates serious coffee, I can honestly say the brew here rivals anything you would find in the best cafes in Seattle. It is rich, smooth, and perfectly roasted—you can taste the freshness and the care in every single sip. The food is just as impressive; the pastries and snacks are fresh, delicious, and clearly made with high standards. It is that rare combination of gourmet quality and comfort food that is so hard to find.
But what truly makes this spot magical is the atmosphere. You are in this beautiful, quiet small town, yet you’re getting a big-city coffee experience without any of the pretension. The service is beyond amazing—it is genuine, amassed with kindness, and efficient. The staff makes you feel like you are the most important person to walk through the door. It’s that incredible West Virginia hospitality where you walk in as a customer and leave feeling like a neighbor.
If you are anywhere near Terra Alta (or even if you aren’t—it’s worth the drive!), you have to go. Portland Coffee is proof that you don’t need a big city zip code to find world-class quality. Amazing food, incredible coffee, and even better people. Five stars isn’t enough!

The coffee is always on point and so so tasty! I don’t often get the treats-but today I tried to chocolate zucchini bread. It was 100% worth it. Of course I always recommend the lemon blueberry bread. You won’t be disappointed!

Coffee is so delicious, fresh and made to order. All pastries are made from scratch from local bakers. The atmosphere and decor are super cozy and inviting. 10/10 recommend if you live here or passing through. Worth the stop to check it out and enjoy some delicious treats.

the owner is very kind and attentive, which makes our visit that much nicer. this place is better than the other 3 coffee shops n Oakland in my opinion. it’s always a must stop on our way thru terra alta. my chai is made from good quality spices not a premix, not overly sweet and comes in a large. shoofly only has it in small size. amazing coffee, crazy delicious baked goods, and they offer Dorothy’s jelly (the wonderful blueberry lady in rowlesburg). stop in and support this gem in terra alta

Cute little coffee shop. I got an ice coffee with toasted marshmallow and another flavor (I can’t remember) but i got the coffee cubes instead of regular ice and it made the drink even better. 10/10 recommend. The owner was super friendly, we are from out of town and she gave use all kinds of recommendations of things to do in the area

It was a nice little place. Staff was helpful when helping me decide what to drink. The only thing is I’m glad I got lightly sweet, because it was very sweet, to both me and my boyfriend. But I will definitely will be back. Great experience!

Sausage gravy is a HUGE pass. They keep it in a crock pot and it’s separated. Had it twice the second time de finally made me throwing up sick! Fake judgie smiles from owners when they are open but the place is never open, like never. Decent cup of coffee but no different than the gas stations
