Well. I grew up in the region moved to Florida just came back to see my father figured man Portillo‘s is a great local spot getting in the drive-through. I’d like a beef and sausage combo. Guy asked me do you want it wet I said yes, I want to add sweet peppers and mozzarella cheese. Sure no problem. Charge me for both get back to the place. I’m staying. It’s not wet no mozzarella no sweet peppers. Ridiculous.

First off – SUPER CLEAN – the lady working inside the dining area was keeping ALL the tables SUPER clean including the floors and garbage cans. I had to say that up front. Because some restaurants just don’t care enough, but Portillo’s does.
The food was awesome and fresh as usual!!!
I ordered the Meal with 2 Chicago Dogs and Onion Rings along with a Coke Zero for a drink and a slice of Chocolate Cake to go!
I also ordered using the kiosks inside the front entrance. Easy and simple to use. I didn’t get a receipt, but if needed, I am sure I could have asked at the front.
Anyway – service was great. Food was great. Great experience!!!

Just wanted to share my awesome experience at the Portillo‘s here in Schererville. They accidentally messed up my wife’s order giving us two beef sandwiches when we both ordered hamburgers and they came to our table not only did they give us our cheeseburger, but they gave us a birthday cake shake, and a piece of their birthday cake cake I thought that was very generous and Marcus was the one to deliver the food and he was Really kind and a really good server. I would highly recommend him to serve anybody at this location.

Flavor was Portillo’s but portion size did not add up. The beef pictured is supposed to be a big beef with extra meat. Seems like this schereville locations portion sizing is dramatically off compared to the other location in NWI and Chicago

The only thing disappointing about my experience is that they have “new” sauces. I loved their BBQ sauce and they changed it to this thick, smokey flavored Sweet Baby Rays crap sauce. BRING BACK THE OLD SAUCE!!!

Rainy Day, Tasty Surprise at Portillo’s – Indiana
On a rainy day drive through Indiana, I had a craving for something satisfying—and when Portillo’s popped up on my path, I couldn’t resist stopping. I was surprised to see only one young man outside taking orders in the rain, without a raincoat or any cover. Despite the weather, he was pleasant, professional, and handled everything with a positive attitude.
I didn’t see any signage confirming whether their burgers and hotdogs were 100% beef, so I asked. He wasn’t sure, but quickly radioed the kitchen team. They confirmed—YES, both the hotdogs and burgers are 100% beef!
I went with the two-hotdog special (everything on them), a large French fry, and a single cheeseburger (also fully loaded). It had been a while since I just sat in my car and enjoyed a hot, fresh meal in peace—and this hit the spot. The veggies were wildly fresh (I had to snap a few pics!), the fries were piping hot and crisp, and the cheeseburger was juicy and flavorful.
Later that evening, I reheated just the hotdog meat, and they were still delicious—packed with flavor and totally worth it.
Overall Experience: 10/10
Value for the Dollar: 10/10

Came here tonight out of the like 50 restaurants in half a mile. Took multiple minutes for someone to come ring me and the other people waiting up. Then it took exceptionally long for the food despite the fact like nobody was in there.
I ordered the burger meal or whatever it was, got it upgraded to a bacon cheeseburger. The bacon cheeseburger had no bacon on it, and the staff did not clarify what kind it was amongst the many choices, so I got the wrong kind of burger to begin with. Didn’t find out it was also made incorrectly until after I got home, so I got upcharged for literally nothing.
The staff also forgot my drink, and when I pointed that out, they also had to correct themselves halfway through getting it because they weren’t getting what I asked for.
Normally, I’m extremely lenient, patient, and forgiving with staff everywhere, but when the price of the food is high versus a lot of other restaurants, and I get something even more expensive than normal and it’s wrong, I’m basically being robbed. 12 or 13 dollars for a small fry, small drink, and seriously incorrect food is a lot.

5 stars for MARCUS !!! probably the friendliest restaurant service worker we’ve come across in a LONG time. Saying hello , helping out and walking around just to create a welcoming atmosphere. Always looking for people like him ANYWHERE !!! 🙂
Foods always good. Grew up in suburbs of Chicago and we had one down the street , so it’s good to come back here to enjoy the bacon burgers and chopped salad and the onion rings and chocolate cake shake when it’s possible.

By far, the best Italian beefs in the Chicagoland area. Fries and onion rings were perfect also. Their chocolate cake is awesome and you can get a slice in a shake if you want to try something delicious but different. You can’t go wrong with burgers and hot dogs as well. Highly recommend eating here and well worth the wait!

The food is good well-made nothing super spectacular, but nothing offensive. You do go here to dine in for the ambience especially if you like cars I like that they have local racing lure posters of old tracks around the area.
