Reviews
The steak was also great, especially the oyster mushrooms (I did mention that all of their vegetables are so well made).
The cocktails were great too, I had a penicillin and a boulevadier, both amazing.
We were a group of 3, and had planned to order many vegetable dishes on top of our apps and proteins. I appreciated that the server advised us to order half portions as opposed to full size due to our group’s size. Honest, friendly service!
The only drawback to this restaurant is that service can take a little bit of time because they course out the meals which they don’t tell you in advance so plan accordingly !
The best dish was the sweat & sour carrots + the desert was amazing!
Three tastes great; The other two are too salty to eat. Non-alcoholic is ok; the gin basil smash has an interesting flavor.
A good customization option is their dishes can all do half size.
As someone who loves simple dishes elevated by the skill of the kitchen, I was genuinely impressed. The flavours were beautifully balanced and the presentation was eye-catching every dish reflected the chefs’ creativity and attention to detail.
Food
• Portions: (5/5)
• Seasoning: (4/5)
• Presentation: (4.5/5)
Snacks
• Smoked Olives: Just perfecto smoky, briny, and addictive.
• Brussels Sprouts: Topped with a smoky cheese sauce that added depth and richness beautifully executed!
• Pork Dumplings: Tender, slightly chewy, and balanced perfectly with fresh green onions and chili crisp.
• Focaccia Bread: Soft, crunchy, toasty, and warm, paired with burrata and hot honey. The focaccia alone was outstanding!
Vegetables
• Beets: Absolutely perfect! The combination of feta and dukkah brought out the earthy, nutty notes beautifully. Loved the herb pairing too.
• Potatoes: If you love hash browns or mashed potatoes, this is a must-try. Crispy on top, soft inside, with cheddar and jalapeño, simple yet delicious!
Drinks
• Cocktail – Earth Tone: (Lot 40 rye, mulled rum, spruce, allspice, lavender)
Just like the name! earthy, floral, and elegant. A slow-sipping drink that perfectly complements the atmosphere.
• Wine – Paolo Scavino Barbera d’Alba Dubre (2023, Piedmont, Italy):
Medium-bodied with a lovely fruitiness and refreshing acidity. A great pairing for the dishes we enjoyed.
Overall
An incredible evening at Portage from the cooks and chefs to the bartenders, servers, and managers, everyone contributed to an exceptional dining experience. The food, drinks, and service came together in harmony. I’ll definitely be back again soon.
