First time visiting Porridge King, and I’m really impressed! The food is absolutely delicious, and the service is great. One unique thing about this place is that they allow you to bring in seafood for them to cook. I picked up a fresh crab from 99 Ranch, and they prepared an amazing salted egg crab—100/100, so good! Definitely coming back to try more dishes. Highly recommend!

Came here for a late lunch and it was cold outside, I was tired and missed my lunch and it was almost dinner time. I had a long drive to my hotel and I knew there would be traffic. I just finished a job in the same parking lot. I walked over here as the other places said Cash Only on their door! I ordered the Shrimp and Egg Chow Fun and to go I had the Roast Duck over rice plate. I was super hungry and literally anything should taste good to me. I dug into the shrimp chow fun and was kind of disappointed the noodles they were using were not great. I think they were not the thick ones have had my entire life. They were thinner and skinner. They tasted like they were from a package of instant noodles. No Wok Hei goodness either. I didn’t eat much and just ate the shrimp and eggs. Super disappointed. Since I didn’t get any satisfaction from the chow fun I ate the Duck plate as well. That on the other hand was good. I just ate the meat and a little rice to cut the greasy fattiness from the duck. The service was fine and the hot tea was welcome on a cold rainy day. Not sure how to review this as it was bad for me on a easy well known beloved dish. You guys try it and tell me!

We had burgers for the last few meals and got sick of it. So, when we arrived SFO, we were looking for Chinese food. I went to Google nearby and read good reviews about this eating place. All of us were pleasantly surprised that the dishes were better than we had expected, the fried Mee Hoon stood up with 2 Thumbs up. We returned to this place consecutively two days. Twice we failed to order the Garlic Chicken, always sold out when we arrived there at 8pm. I could have given a more than 4 stars if the waiter could be more patient.

Such a wonderful, no-nonsense, comforting, and the best casual Chinese restaurant in Daly City! They had all my favorites here that it was hard to choose them all but all the food was delicious with abundance of “wok hey” for the courses that are supposed to have it which is a testament to me on how good Chinese food is. Friendly staff and the portions are definitely above average which is great for my wallet. I would not hesitate to come back and such a gem! This restaurant is the real deal!

The food and service are decent. However, this was the first time I’ve ever been chased down for a tip. Sometimes, I choose to leave a separate cash tip on the table rather than on the credit card. Demanding a tip is a greedy behavior I don’t like.

Haven’t been here for a while since they were closed during the pandemic.
First of all, they served you a free tea. OMG!!!! I couldn’t believe my eyes there were a hair sticking on a glasses. It was so disgusting!! My appetite was gone even though I was hungry, I wanted to throw up
I managed to order rib porridge, brisket beef and fried noodles. When I checked out and about paying by credit card. They said cash only. Don’t remember if they have changed a payment method after reopening. Anyway, it was a bit annoying paying cash only because their foods not cheap compared with other similar restaurants. Service was good, but not sure if I would come back after such horrible experience.

Good place for roasted Duck or Porridge after grocery shopping at 99 Ranch. Porridge was filling. Duck was flavorful. Not feeling the dipping sauce.

Wow, what a delightful experience at Porridge King in Daly City last night! Dropped $35 (tax included, how generous) for a roast duck, only to get home and discover they decided to keep one leg and one wing for themselves. Truly a masterclass in portion control! This gem of a place can keep their shady antics—I’m done with them.

It was packed but that is to be expected on weekends and holidays. The barbecue pork and roast duck were excellent.
Unfortunately, they forgot to bring the rest of our order so that was a definite minus in my books.
Service is tolerable only because the food is pretty good.
No need to leave a tip because they already factor in on your bill which is an additional 15% on their moderately priced menu.

Located in the compact 99 Ranch shopping complex off skyline boulevard in daly city, Porridge King offers a lot more than porridge…. to varying degrees of success.

The menu is expansive and just about everything is available…from porridge and noodles to roast pork or duck rice plates up to clay pots. This is isn’t a higher end seafood restaurant. Just a regular Chinese restaurant mainly serving the locals. Prices are on the high side.

I would steer clear of the noodles with soup. The seem to do better with stir fried dishes. I ordered the beef chow fun with vegetables and gravy “suhp chow choi suhm ngow hoh” ,along with low expectations, and was pleasantly surprised. Dish was piping hot, not too oily with generous portions. Other dishes didn’t fare so well. The noodle soups were barely ok. The noodle were fully cooked.. Roast duck rice seemed like a small portion for the price. We didn’t try the porridge.

All in all, porridge king fits the bill if you’re hungry and want chinese food. Certainly you’ll be going where the locals go. I’d go back for the chow fun. Other items, not so much.
