Super cute ice cream shop with tasty soft serve and hard ice cream. About a dozen tables indoors and out. Fast, friendly service and reasonable prices. Poppy’s Cafe, attached, has great food too.

First time visiting Popey’s Ice Cream Shoppe and we really enjoyed it.
We ordered the Popey’s burger and some ice cream… Everything was delicious, freshly made, and served with a smile. It’s a lovely local spot with a charming atmosphere.
The only downside for me, as a mom of 3 little ones, was the absence of a restroom. It would have made the experience a bit more comfortable, especially with young children.
Other than that, everything was great and we’ll definitely be back!

This place should be on “Diners Drive-ins and Dives” because it is a tiny little place that looks like a hot dog drive in. It is equivalent to a swanky franks but with Giffords ice cream and real waffle cones. Curly fries are amazing. Burger and regular French fries are good for the inexpensive price. Cow town countryside views near Litchfield and very remote small town feel. Burger, fries and a scoop of ice cream are good.

Great Ice Cream, good food. This place is a summer tradition. Hot dogs, burgers, a few other sandwiches, wraps and fries are all good. My only complaint is the hot dog chili is more like tomato paste than meat sauce (or chili). Giffords Ice Cream is one of my favorite brands, lots of flavor choices.

The nostalgia is real with Popey’s! I’ve been going here since I was a little kid, chompin’ down on those Flurries and rockin’ in their swinging chairs!

what a cute little place! we stumbled upon this little ice cream shop/cafe and we loved it ! Ice cream was so good, they have a variety of flavors and so many options for milkshakes and flurries! They also have food and the menu looked so good – we got ice cream, milk shakes and some French fries and it was delicious! we would definitely make the trip to go back!

Yooooo carvel is deaaaaad to meeee foreva! Popeys is WHERE IT IS AT. I straight up don’t like s’more’s. Buuut for some reason decided to get this flavor in a cone and top 10 espn doo doot doot doo doot doot ice creams of my life. Everyone loved what they got – pb pie, strawberry, and bear claw something or other. They were all great. Tasted homemade and were fresh. Will be back with all my CT friends.

Came here for lunch stayed for the ice cream.
Lunch was a typical quality, sweet potato fries were good and my mom had grilled cheese with tuna that she said was really good. Kids meal was really cute and a good amount of food.
The ice cream is so good! I got Maine black bear and I loved it! Love ice cream with raspberry. My mom had the cherry blossom and loved it too! The small (two scoops) were two generous scoops. Glad my sister recommended we go here.

4/20/22_stopped in before noon for a Popey’s Burger.. the burger was great albeit a little overpriced at almost $10 and again the wait time was very long especially considering it wasn’t that busy yet. I enjoy a laid-back atmosphere but 23 minutes for a hamburger is a little much.
If you have the patience and the money I would still recommend it as a place to go if you’re in the area especially if after your meal you enjoy a nice selection of ice cream!
I enjoyed the atmosphere and the food wasn’t all that bad, the burger was cooked the way that I asked and the fries were crinkle cut and cooked golden brown which I like.
The problem was, I waited 25 minutes for a cheeseburger that ended up costing me $12 and when I asked what the delay was I was told that because of the size of the burger it took a longer time to cook.
Ok, so a delay like that, waiting for your order is something that would annoy anyone, but being spoken to honestly is more important than the wait.. was I honestly to believe that it takes almost a half hour to cook a hamburger? The prices here are immodestly high as well.. if you plan on coming here, expect to be patient and have that wallet ready.
