We really enjoyed our first visit here! The staff were friendly and the food was fantastic. I enjoyed the little lunch counter (the building looks real old); it was kinda tiny for a tall person like me.
But the icing on the cake was the PIE. I had the coconut meringue pie. Man it was good! Y’all gotta come and try this little place: seriously- it’s a gem in Bedford County’s crown!

First time at Pope’s Cafe and my wife and I were very pleased. I got a biscuit breakfast sandwich with home fries and my wife got a breakfast platter with biscuits and gravy. Coffee was hot and fresh, our hostess Karen was warm and welcoming. She made us feel right at home. We finished the meal with a piece of homemade pie (they have many to choose from) and couldn’t be happier with our visit. We plan to come back for breakfast again, maybe another time to try the lunch menu. They also have a great, fresh salad bar. And we plan to bring the kids, too! A sweet, cozy local find. Come try it out!

Cute location. Sweet tea was sweet. French toast was liquid, uncooked egg isn’t my preference. For a 20 minute wait, fully cooked should be the bare minimum. Tried to handle my concerns with staff, but was snapped at for taking a picture. So, here y’all go, the liquid french toast I took a picture of to send group chat. (Restrooms dirty)

I was quite pleased with this cafe on the square in “downtown” Shelbyville. The menu had quite a bit to choose from, but not overkill. I had opted for breakfast during lunch. I was a bit disappointed in the chicken fried chicken because it was essentially a frozen fried breast made for sandwiches. Everything else was super delightful. The pancake was fluffy, along with the homemade biscuits. The hashbrowns were fresh and cooked extra crispy. I love the story behind how to current restaurant came about. The service was as good as you could get. Happy, eager to serve employees made for a great visit.

Great little diner type place with good food and great service. We went for breakfast and enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Our waitress was extremely friendly, efficient and helpful. My husband had a hard time choosing between the numerous homemade pies, but finally settled on coconut cream. He said it wasn’t the best he has had, but it was good. I did though have the best blackberry fried pie I’ve ever had! We would go back if we were in the area again.

Such a great atmosphere and so neat seeing the various antiques as you eat. They also have what looks to be a fantastic salad bar. I had a patty melt and my husband had a burger. We shared fried okra. All of it was delicious and filling. We will be back to try other dishes.

I have been to Pope’s twice so far but want be back!!! I went to breakfast n the service n food was good so I decide to try the meal out Saturday but the service sucks n the salad bar was awful. Some of the containers were about empty so I asked the blonde waitress if she wud refill them n she told me when gets time but there wasn’t about 5 people in there. She never refilled them while we was there.2 waitresses working n were standing by the cash register on there phones laughing. We had to get there attention just to get refills on drinks cause they never came to the table n asked if we needed anything n don’t let me get started on the floor cause it was filthy looking. So if your looking for service I wouldn’t recommend there!!!

This cozy place has occupied the square in Shelbyville since 1945. The menu is fairly simple and this place is basically a Meat & Three, so I opted for the Country Fried Chicken, mashed potatoes, white gravy, and carrots. Overall the meal was solid, the chicken tender and the breading had good flavor, potatoes were just OK, and the carrots were very good. The cornbread is good but would have been much better warm. Service was good and while I did not get any pie, they did look tasty.

We just moved here 2 weeks ago. We love small mom and pop businesses. We stumbled across this gem. We walked in and were greeted with a smile. We sat down, and our server was the sweetest person. (Jennifer ). We told her we just moved here and looking for things to do and a hairstylist. She sat down and chatted with us about local places to see. She also gave me information for a hairstylist. Win win.
The food…. probably the best home cooking I’ve had in a while. I had a bacon egg and cheese sandwich with hashbrowns. My husband got the 3 egg omelet with bacon and cheese with 3 pancakes. Now I’m not a pancake person, but I tasted it because Fred said they were so good. Yep, hands down. I took 1 bite, and I’m hooked. This little place does not disappoint. The sweet tea, reminded me of my dad’s tea. Love it ❤️

Our first time here in years.. We came late on a Monday evening. Our waitress was so pleasant. We had the Open-faced Roast Beef with our bread on the side, fresh Mashed Potatoes with brown gravy, White beans and a bunch of onions. Every item had a generous portion. And…they had 5 or more pies. We had the Coconut Merangue pie. Every bite was delicious. We’ll be back…
BTW…I forgot to get pics of our meals because we gobbled our dinners so quick.
