Fantastic bar and grill with an open bar feel atmosphere nicely lit room, great staff and manager most definitely recommended for locals who like to try out different restaurants they also have a Big Al’s where you can play some pool upstairs.
Menus are simple, not confusing and straight to the point. Beverages are Coke products and alcohol.

Very fresh sea food and great price and service. The crab legs are delicious, shrimps are tender and flavorful. And the oysters are so fresh my husband loved it so much. Highly recommend!

The place was not crowded during typical lunch peak time. Ordered a cup of French onion soup and four plates of rolls with another friend. The soup was overly salted. The taste and size of the rolls were okay and they offered half price for the rolls during lunch time.

The food was worth the wait! The service was pretty good. They could all stand to smile a little more. The staff seemed a little unorganized and they were out of alot of items but I’m sure it probably has something to do with the VT game and Senior Day. All in all, I would definitely go back. Our appetizers were awesome. The portion sizes of sushi are huge. Entree Ribeye was amazingly flavored and cooked to desired tempurature.

This was my first time eating at Poor Billy’s and I was very impressed! This was some of the best food I have ever eaten and the service was excellent. The food came out quickly and was cooked perfectly. We tried the onion rings and the shrimp and scallops cornbread appetizer. I highly recommend both of these. The cornbread was incredibly moist and sweet. It is truly the best cornbread I have ever eaten. The onion rings have a seasoning on them that tastes great. Our server brought out ranch dressing, ketchup and a spicy sauce used with the sushi they make. We loved dipping our onion rings in all three but the spicy sushi sauce is amazing! We both ordered the filet mignon. It literally melted in our mouths. Our house salads were fresh and the vegetables were crisp. Even the croutons were awesome! My husband had a baked potato and said it was the best he has had. I had the garlic mashed potatoes and they were great! Our server was excellent. He was very knowledgeable about the items on the menu and was very helpful. We will certainly be returning to Poor Billy’s many times to come! This has become one of our favorite restaurants!

This restaurant used to be phenomenal. This used to be my go to restaurant for 10+ years. Over the last couple years, their quality of food and service has deteriorated while their prices have increased. If you have a party greater than six don’t waste your time going here. Honestly, I would look elsewhere unless your simply in the mood for sushi and drinks.

This was our first visit to Poor Billy’s. We were pleasantly surprised. I thought the menu would be sandwiches, but not so. They just changed the menu this week–lots of seafood; the shrimp and grits was amazing. Excellent food and service. We will definitely go back.

I went on a Tuesday night. Had to ask to be seated, sat at my table for over ten minutes with my menu closed in front of me. No one ever came to get my drink order or even say hello. Was interested in ordering French onion soup and ribeye. I finally got up, handed my menu to the sushi lady and left. BAD SERVICE!! Can’t comment on the food because I never got a chance to try it. Good luck staying in business in downtown Blacksburg with all the other competition.

Went here for sushi and was extremely disappointed. The white guy at the sushi bar preparing the rolls should have tipped me off that it wasn’t a good night to try sushi here, but I had a craving. The rice was not seasoned well, the fish was mediocre at best. I tried to save it with soy sauce (which I personally hate doing, I feel like the fish and the rice should be able to stand on their own feet with flavors) and even asked for some of the vinegar that they used to flavor the rice thinking that maybe this batch of rice just hadn’t been properly seasoned, but the sushi vinegar itself was not good and left a bad taste in my mouth. We also ordered appetizers (smoked gouda crab dip and one of their specials of the night cream of lobster soup) and neither was spectacular and the crab dip had nothing crabby about it and tasted very fishy and wasn’t thick enough for my liking, but the pita chips served with it were great. I could almost overlook some of these shortcomings if it weren’t for the somewhat high price tag associated with meal. I might come back to try some of their steak and cooked seafood fare, but not anytime soon, I still need to get this bad taste out of my mouth.
