Yesterday, after pausing from my Doordash side-hustle for a late afternoon lunch, I chose to visit Pollo Tropical on Fruitville Rd in Sarasota.
It was just after 3pm, and as I walked in, there was a group of people in uniform, all gathering together for a picture.
It dawned on me that it was the Pollo Tropical staff.
The energy was so positive, I felt inspired to help them in any way I could.
There was no customer traffic, I just happened to walk in during the brief time they were taking to gather for a picture.
I was curious about why they were taking a picture when I was informed by Christopher Santana, the General Manager, that the restaurant had just passed their health inspection with a perfect score.
To witness the exuberance of an entire team on a win in the hospitality industry was a breath of fresh air.
I have been here several times in the past, and have to state that this Pollo Tropical delivers on service with a smile.
I offered to help in taking the picture to include Christopher, but he humbly declined, and went on to say that they did the work, and he wanted them to get the credit, a powerful example of leadership, another breath of fresh air.
Christopher then offered to take my order while the group was still getting ready for the pictures. I was grateful and shared my desired menu selection.
To my surprise and delight he said, “It’s on me.”. Talk about showing up at the right place and the right time!
I then insisted on helping take the pictures, and he accepted my offer but insisted on the team that did the work to be in the pictures.
The energy of that entire team was contagious. I even felt inspired for the entire team to shout out “Pollo!” during one of the shots.
After the shots, my food was quickly and deliciously presented for me to take to my desired table near a window.
I captured my Avocado Chicken Salad, then ate to my heart’s content!
While eating, I approached by a friendly staff member that observed that I didn’t have sauces to go with my salad, and agreed to their Chipotle and Pineapple Rum sauces, that only enhanced the fusion of flavors and texture of my dish.
Another staff member came over just to check on me to see if everything was ok and wanted to know if there was anything else I needed.
I cannot stress enough how I was blown away by the level of service I received at Pollo Tropical.
The food is fresh, and the Caribbean fusion menu options they offer are all worthy of multiple visits.
The atmosphere is clean with a warm color scheme with an abundance of natural light.
It was my honor and privilege to witness a level of excellence I rarely experience in fast food by a team that that exude pride, respect, collaboration and joy!
Kudos to Christopher Santana and the amazing staff at Pollo Tropical on Fruitville Rd in Sarasota…a MUST VISIT destination in Souhwest Florida!

Mediocre at best. I’ve had Pollo Tropical from several locations. This is definitely not on the top of the list for food quality and freshness. It’s better than traditional quick service though. And the staff seem friendly.

I took my family to dinner here and it was very disappointing. The kitchen looked dirty, and the staff was immature and unprofessional. One employee even said right in front of me, “I hate this job,” which made the atmosphere very uncomfortable.
We were told they had no white rice, no beans, and no corn — basically out of most of the main sides. Surprisingly, they still had chicken, but the overall experience was terrible.
This was by far the worst Pollo Tropical experience we’ve ever had. I would not recommend this location. Stay away.

A young Latino man served me at the drive thru and his level of service and care exceeded my expectations and really made me feel important. Sometimes, life can make us feel as if no one cares. My visit was a welcome reminder that this is not true. To be treated so well by a drive thru worker is a strong sign that there is something very right going on at this establishment.

I went through the drive thru and ordered chicken, rice and beans. The service was excellent, the person I dealt with was kind and my food came out extremely quickly. Though the rice and beans were great, the chicken was a bit disappointing… a bit salty. The cilantro sauce I ordered helped make it better though. I could also tell the bread was frozen (which is expected at this type of establishment) but it made my throat hurt. For $10, I’ll definitely return and maybe try something else on my menu.

I order from them multiple times a month, i am super picky with chicken and always get their quesadilla wrap, which is supposed to be pressed – meaning its a hot wrap with the cheese melted. This is what I received today, near frozen food, the cheese is still shredded and the chicken was disgustingly cold. how do I know it was cooked to temperature i want to die thinking me and my friend bit into this. This is a food safety issue, theres nothing left of a restaurant when they miss food quality check. Missing this is not taking care of your patrons and I am disgusted more than disappointed.

What I like about Pollo Tropical is the convenience. You can find it almost anywhere in south Florida and the food is great and inexpensive, if you like chicken that is. This location was no different. It was clean. The servers were kind. I ordered the half chicken and got black beans and yellow rice as the two sides you get with the meal. The chicken was nice and juicy, which sometimes you don’t get in Pollo Tropical. Sometimes, at some locations they have it really chewy and dry. But IMO they did it right here. I got the pineapple rum sauce and the garlic ranch sauce. Pollo Tropical used to have sauce counter on the outside but I guess they have changed it now and you have to ask the servers for them. I enjoyed my food here.

Drive thru service was quick, but the server at the windows was abrupt and busy on her phone, as though we were disturbing her day.
Adding a Regular side for $1.50 is NOT CLEAR. Menu doesn’t show which sides are regular or premium. Buyer beware! Turns out the item I added was considered premium – and was not explained to me – even when I clearly stated I was adding the item using THAT deal.

Food, location, staff was 5 stars!!! Seriously best and most welcoming staff! Yaneis, the manager was so awesome! Food was so good too. Chicken never misses. It’s perfectly seasoned. Also the yucca balls stuffed with cheese are great!

I had seen this place since my childhood trips to Florida and always wanted to try it. Finally the dream came true and I must say it was great. The food is very good and it has plenty of options. The store is not as clean as you can expect, but still the rest does it and felt it was worth going.
