Finding a true craft beer oasis in the middle of a dry county might sound like a tall tale—something whispered by hopeful travelers or exaggerated by locals—but Polk and Paddle in Batesville, Arkansas, makes it a delicious, undeniable reality. This isn’t just a bar that happens to exist where you wouldn’t expect one; it’s a thoughtfully curated, locally rooted gem that feels like the vibrant community hub the city has quietly been waiting for—and absolutely earned.

From the moment you step through the door, the energy is unmistakable. The space hums with conversation, laughter, and a sense of belonging that’s increasingly rare. At the heart of it all is co-owner Tham, whose hospitality is nothing short of exceptional. Her warm welcome isn’t performative—it’s genuine, effortless, and contagious. You don’t feel like a customer; you feel like a guest who’s been expected. That tone carries through the entire experience, setting the stage for an visit that feels relaxed, personal, and memorable.

And then there’s the beer—the true star of the show.

Ordering a flight at Polk and Paddle isn’t just sampling brews; it’s taking a guided tour through local craftsmanship and flavor. Each pour tells its own story:

Lyon Citrus opens the experience with a bright, zesty punch—lively and refreshing, it snaps the palate awake and signals that this lineup means business.

Lyon Lager follows with quiet confidence: crisp, clean, and perfectly balanced, the kind of beer you could drink all night without fatigue.

Lyon Winter Ale brings warmth and depth, a robust, cozy companion that feels tailor-made for cooler evenings and slower conversations.

And then there’s Lyon Red Rover, the undisputed standout. Complex yet incredibly smooth, it commands attention without demanding it—rich, satisfying, and utterly unforgettable. If there’s a reason to come back (and there are many), this beer alone would be enough.

What elevates Polk and Paddle beyond great beer is the way everything comes together. The crowd feels local but welcoming. The atmosphere strikes that rare balance between lively and laid-back. It’s the kind of place where one drink turns into a flight, the flight turns into dinner, and suddenly you’re planning your next visit before you’ve even closed your tab.

Polk and Paddle isn’t just a stop—it’s a destination.
Great food, exceptional people, and the best beer in town, all thriving exactly where you least expect it nestled on Main Street. If you haven’t been yet, you’re already late. – Mike B

The best seasoned, fried, and fresh chicken tenders I’ve had in a long, long time! Onion rings were great and not too greasy, which is rare. And I thought their prices were so good in today’s world. Highly recommend!

We had a really wonderful experience at Polk & Paddle! Our first visit here … Have seen so many great things about this place & these people on FB. Needed to see for myself. The whole vibe of this place is just so cool & most importantly, inviting! The staff greeted us with warmth & smiles. We had a flight of beer, which is so fun to be able to experience different variety, especially when you’re talking about home brew (I mean native Arkansan brewed beer). We shared a baked pretzel served with a beer cheese dipping sauce & stone ground spicy mustard, pickles & pickled okra & olives on the side. This pretzel was the best ever pretzel I’ve ever had … Soft, fluffy, salty, buttery, pull-apart delight! Bartend, Paige, was ever so inviting & accommodating. Owners Tham & Dustin were ever so inviting & accommodating. We will definitely plan to add this little hot spot to our regular visits. Must try. Must see. Must do.
Edit: second visit! Hubs had a gorgeous veg burger. Raved about the depth of flavor! I had a flight of beer. I so love trying them all. If I could hold more, I’d have ordered another 4 local brews to taste test! P&P potato wedges are my new fave & the dipping sauce (Oh. My. Word.) Is fantastic! I don’t know what they call it, but it was kind of a dijonnaise with a hint of kick. So good! Fun vibe here! Add this place to your routine outings!

Where to begin? The food, atmosphere, beer, and staff are phenomenal. We were introduced to Polk & Paddle by friends who live in Batesville. The menus is small and rotating. On our last trip I had the turkey club while my wife had the catfish sandwich. Both were delicious and for me to say that about catfish says a lot. The owner is quick with a smile and an offering of a refreshing local beer. I know we’ll be back when we’re in town and I recommend everyone stop by to say hi and support local.

I love this place. It’s a perfect neighborhood American pub: excellent food (see their FB page for rotating menu), excellent drinks (many of them brewed on site and only available at P&P), and a cozy, welcoming atmosphere. 100% Cheers-vibes in there.

I should probably have pictures, but the truth of the matter is that I am a greedy piggy when I get in there, and the plates and pint glasses are clean before I think of a photo.

A Hidden Gem in Batesville!

If you’re wandering through downtown Batesville and craving a spot that’s equal parts chill and delicious, look no further than Polk & Paddle. This cozy brewery and eatery has quickly become one of my go-to places to eat and hang out.

What I love most is their small, rotating menu. It’s not overwhelming with a million options; instead, it’s thoughtfully curated with fresh American dishes (and sometimes a Vietnamese twist) that change weekly. Keeps things exciting without the decision paralysis! Their craft beer paired with a killer burger hits the spot perfectly.

The atmosphere is fantastic – think warm, inviting vibes with that downtown charm, perfect for catching up with friends or just unwinding after a long day. And the service? Top-notch all the way. The staff is friendly, attentive, and makes you feel right at home.

Overall, 5 stars from me. If you’re in Batesville, do yourself a favor and paddle on over to Polk & Paddle. You won’t regret it!
