As for the restaurant, walking in the parking lot, there was a nice aroma of smoke. The restaurant was bright and clean inside. The staff was friendly. Sadly, they didn’t have any unsweet tea, I like tea but not sweet tea. They offered to let us bring in our own tea from our camper. That was nice. But we decided to get our order to go and eat in our van.
I enjoyed the brisket. It had a nice flavor and texture. The mac and cheese was good. The beans were also good, I liked them better than the mac and cheese.
If passing through the area again, we will definitely stop by again.
Parking wasn’t too bad but there are no marked out spaces so I just kind of pulled up to another adjacent car. The entire parking area is all crushed aggregate rock.
Staff was very nice inside, not the most talkative but still pleasant. We ordered two “Build Your Own Kitchen Sink Taters”. We got one with Brisket, Mac, Bean and Coleslaw and a second with Pork, Mac, Beans and Coleslaw. These were very good and very filling after our long morning hike. I shared these with my 2 older kids. My wife order the Salad with chicken and enjoyed that. We also order the kids pulled pork sandwich with mac as a side. My middle one ate that and liked it better than the kitchen sink taters. My youngest (super picky) wasn’t the biggest fan of the mac and cheese side. I think he said they were too “spicy” for him. He did agree to try the chips and queso. However, the queso was very runny and he refused to eat that as well. I tried some myself and I thought they were pretty meh. Would not order that again.
We ordered everything to-go as we were driving to Grayson Highlands State Park to try and see some ponies. They loaded us with with sauces and napkins and plastic utensils for the road.
The atmosphere was a little awkward. I didn’t know what to do while waiting for my food (about 5-10 mins). We were wandering around looking at things on the wall. There was some music playing but guests that were there were whispering quietly with each other. There was no designated place for me to sit and another mom and kid did the same thing who came in after us. Just kid of standing and loitering around.
Overall the food was good for the price and the value was good with the Kitchen Sink taters and Salad anyways. If we were driving through Chilhowie, we’d stop here again and suggest it to others as well.
The restrooms were clean and nicely decorated, located to the left back. Cute decorations and Knick knacks are inside the dining room. It was a friendly, comfy place that we highly recommend. We will definitely stop again on our next trip through town!
