Wow, this place has some great comfort food. Went in for a fried catfish po’ boy and it did NOT disappoint. Generous piece of fish on a sturdy roll with just the right breading and seasoning. They offered some add-ins for a modest upgrade price ($1.75?) and they made the whole thing perfect.
Friend had the fried chicken and fish platter with mac & cheese. We agreed it was the best mac & cheese we know of in Portland. I couldn’t identify the cheeses, but they were well combined into an elevated experience. There was no oil separation, so they know their way around a bechamel. The blackened catfish was so good, I may do the blackened catfish po’ boy next time instead of the fried, but such decisions can’t be made ahead.
They updated the space since last time I was there, and it is a comfortable little bistro very reminiscent of the little cafes you find outside of the French Quarter, with deep red walls, framed portraits of notable luminaries, and plants suspended from the ceiling.
If a trip to New Orleans is off the table, get a table here.

Literally the best fried catfish in town!! Everything hit and there were no misses. And can we take a minute for the sweet tea? Because wow even that was immaculate. Please go here, this place deserves a line out the door!

On my most recent trip to Portland, Oregon, for the Street of Dreams with my daughter, we stopped in for a late lunch at Po’Shines Café De La Soul restaurant. Po’Shines is a storied historical, family-owned location in the Kenton district in Portland. These are my Favorite types of places to eat. And Po’Shines did not disappoint. I always gauge a Soulfood restaurant by how well they cook the grits, their greens, and their fried fish. I got the catfish Poboy and it was right up there with some of the best I’ve eaten. I still cannot figure out the vinegary condiments on top which I’m certain must’ve been some kind of pickled greens. It set off the sandwich in a way that I have not tasted before. Baby girl still wanted breakfast fare and she settled on the cheesy bacon grits with a side of scrambled eggs and peach cobbler to go. Both hit the spot (though she said the grits could have been a tad bit more creamy for her taste – like mama’s!). The ambience and the staff set the vibe for what to expect of the dining experience. We had a good time all around. Don’t miss and please patronize this place the next time you’re in town.

The best Soul Food in Portland! The sweet tea brought back memories of neighbors pouring me a glass on hot summer evenings. The collard greens will make even the pickiest kid eat their vegetables. The BBQ is perfection. I can’t eat BBQ at most places because they just don’t get it right! The black-eyed peas and rice reminded me of sitting at Big Mama’s kitchen counter after school and chatting about everything while she made dinner for her family. The sweet potato pie is quite literally the best I’ve ever had. I’ve never met a sweet potato pie that I didn’t like, but this stuff is what dreams are made of! The service was excellent. There aren’t many places anymore where they all introduce themselves and talk about recipes passed down by their great-grandmother, or having a barbecue when their favorite uncle brought over the latest meat he had come across, and their mom instinctively knew the best ways to season it. We will be back again and again and dreaming about it until the next time!

We ate here and had a great meal and experience. We ordered two of the big plates so we could try a lot of variety in mains and sides and we loved all of it. The ribs, brisket, pulled pork and wings were all well seasoned, with big portions. We loved the sides. Especially the hush puppies, trinity greens and macaroni & cheese. The server and staff were all really friendly and attentive. We were too full for desert, so we took home peach cobbler and it was also delicious! We highly recommend if you’re looking for good soul food in Portland.

Food was good, some items needed seasoning, ribs were delicious, fried chicken and fried okra needed seasoning and salt, food was very good overall. The service was polite but a bit over attentive, she was nice enough. We came to dinner at 7ish we were the only ones there. Others who left reviews said very small portions , I found the portions fine . The Iced tea tasted off. The sweet tea was good though. Overall I’d give it a 4.3 .

Totally unexpected phenomenal restaurant. It’s in the Kenton neighborhood of Portland. The restaurant does not look such a great restaurant from outside. I was going to bail out of this place and go elsewhere. But my friends pulled me into the restaurant. What a surprise!! Their food is so delicious and well prepared. The best poor boy sandwich better than the ones in Tennessee. Coleslaw was excellent too. I will definitely make a trip to there soon.

The service and food here is exceptional. Brought parents here to try Southern food and this place delivered on it. The blackened catfish and fried chicken were delicious. Each had the perfect amount of flavor and were so moist. And the fried okra and macaroni sides were also great. Portions are huge so glad my parents and I split a platter.
The staff checked in on us a few times and introduced themselves. I have a bad memory for names but I think we met a Lance, Michael and a Taviana???????
I saw they also have vegetarian entrees like jackfruit po boys that I want to try next time.
Will definitely be back!

Sweet tea, chicken & waffles and breakfast scramble. Brunch was delicious as always, even 10 years later.

Had the catfish with fries, tartar sauce, and cornbread. The catfish was moist, flaky, and had a perfect breading/crust both in terms of texture as well as seasoning. The fries were great as well, albeit slightly too salty. Not enough to be an issue, but if I order again for dine-in I might ask for extra water and/or ketchup. The cornbread was fine, but I will probably swap it for hush puppies next time. That being said, cornbread is one of those dishes that has a thousand recipes and a million opinions. 4/5 for the sides but the catfish brings the overall to 5/5.
Excellent, friendly service, a lovely atmosphere, and modest pricing. Will definitely return!
