My family has been coming to this restaurant for years, which makes this experience not just disappointing, but very upsetting.

We placed a pickup order totaling over $100. When I arrived, I was told our order had been given to another customer. Instead of immediately apologizing and remaking the food, the front desk employee spent several minutes trying to find the order, then called the customer who took it and asked him to come back with the food so it could be given to me.

This is an obvious food safety issue. Once food leaves a restaurant, it should never be redistributed. When I calmly said I was not comfortable taking food that had already gone to someone else’s home, the employee argued with me, insisting it hadn’t been touched. I had to repeatedly ask for the food to be remade.

When the other customer returned, the employee made a pointed comment that the food would be thrown away “because we have to remake it,” while looking directly at me. This felt accusatory, uncomfortable, and inappropriate, especially since the mistake was not mine.

After waiting over 40 additional minutes, I was still charged the full amount. When I politely asked whether there would be any consideration for the delay and error, I was told, “We already lost money on you.” Being spoken to that way after showing patience and understanding was shocking and deeply unprofessional.

Unfortunately, the situation did not end there. When we later called the restaurant, the same employee refused to provide a manager or owner’s contact information, refused to let us speak with a manager, and then when we asked for the employee’s name she said, “What’s YOUR name and What’s your problem?” That comment alone reflects a serious lack of professionalism. We emailed management twice to address what happened and have received no response.

Mistakes happen. What is unacceptable is arguing with customers about food safety, making them feel blamed for expecting safe food, speaking to them disrespectfully, and then ignoring follow-up.

Management should take this feedback seriously, because this experience reflects poorly on their business. We are very sad to no longer be customers of PNS after many years of enjoying their food.

A little small compared to the Chicago Penny’s, but would go again. We got the Lad Nar, Roasted Pork, and Vietnamese Spring Rolls. So good!!!

this is our extremely regular Thai place – my wife can’t usually eat at many restaurants because she has a lot of different food sensitivities, but this one is our go-to.

As a fan of Penny’s in the city, I was so excited to try this location! Unfortunately, I arrived to find it closed although there was no mention of this on the website or any social media. If you’re going to close for 3 weeks, let potential customers know 🙁

So the one star is for me driving extra 20 min to have a lunch and finding out that the restaurant is closed and works from 5 pm Wednesday to Friday

The experience was utterly disappointing – not only were the noodles sweeter than fruit punch, but the response to my complaint was shockingly rude. Instead of acknowledging the issue and offering a solution, the staff displayed a complete lack of professionalism, dismissing my concerns with blatant disregard. Their curt response, implying they didn’t value my patronage, only added insult to injury. It’s truly disheartening when a restaurant not only fails to meet culinary expectations but also lacks basic courtesy and respect for their customers.

I’m giving this place 3 stars because I feel Penny’s isn’t the same anymore. I went in on a Saturday, it was dead. They were playing Hispanic music which I thought was odd being an Asian restaurant. The server gave me an attitude because I asked if they were able to make the hot pepper noodle dish mild. For a min she argued with me that it’s not spicy at all..an that they can’t adjust anything. Then a min later she tells me ok we can make it mild. Just rude. Unprofessional in my opinion. I’ve been eating the same hot pepper noodle dish since they had their old location downtown. I don’t think I’ll be back.. or at least to this location.

Only rating the food since we ordered for delivery. We ordered seemingly traditional dishes in pad Thai and pad se ew and both were inedible. The pad se ew was sweet, no hint of soy flavor and I could only take a couple bites and had to toss the rest. The pad Thai has zero flavor. We also ordered ramen for our daughter and she said the broth had no flavor. If you are anti-flavor or can’t handle spice of any kind, you might want to check it out.
