Got hooked on Surinamese food when living in the Netherlands and have been looking for a restaurant in the states to satisfy that craving. We were in NYC for the weekend and stopped by PNK to try it out. It was everything I was looking for. They had a great variety of classic dishes on the menu, but I had to go with a classic Bami Kip. Can vouch that it’s just as good as any Surinamese I had in NL. If you are in town, make sure to stop by. It’s located pretty close to JFK in Queens which makes it an easy stop of you are traveling to or from the airport and need a delicious meal.

We came here to try Surinamese dishes. Both dishes were absolutely fantastic! The Saoto Soup has a rich broth with great toppings, and the Pom was delicious with its crispy skin and tender meat.
What’s even better is that the owner is very passionate and shared a lot of knowledge about Surinamese food, making the dining experience even more special. Highly recommend!

We don’t have Suriname restaurants so let’s begin there. When I’m in the mood for Suriname food my options are limited to one spot. The food here is very inconsistent from one order to the next. The Hong Kong Tjawmin, first order, was with the correct noodles and made to perfection. Since, it’s just been the noodles used to make bami which with carrots and peas and it doesn’t taste like Tjawmin. It’s beginning to look and taste more like Guyanese food. The chicken, however, has been very consistent throughout my many orders. The saoto is always missing something from the pepper sauce to the rice being hard. The Hong Kong Nasi is okay.
The lapis is sometimes firm and other times looks like pudding. The taste is consistent.
I write this feedback hoping that the restaurant will work on delivering consistent and authentic, as close to, Suriname food.

What a joy to experience the fantastic cuisine of beloved Suriname right here in NYC!!! The food was delicious, fresh and amazing. A lot of great food for a very reasonable price. The owners and staff are all so nice and wonderful. We felt the warmth and welcoming of Suriname in Queens! We celebrated our son’s birthday and it was truly a great experience! Can’t wait to come back soon.

I recently visited a fairly new establishment located in Richmond Hill on the famous Liberty Avenue. Having never tried Surinamese cuisine before, I was excited to try a variety of dishes. Upon entering, I immediately felt a warm and homey vibe. The restaurant is small and intimate, with dim lighting adding a cozy touch to the dining area.
Though I hadn’t met the owner before, Neil greeted my nieces and me with genuine warmth and a constant smile. He gave us excellent recommendations and took the time to explain the ingredients in each dish. We decided to try a few items and were pleasantly surprised by the experience. Every dish had its own unique flavor and blend of spices. My personal favorites were the kippenworst and the Hong Kong nasi.
While waiting for our order, I noticed a steady flow of people coming in, either picking up food or placing new orders. Delivery drivers were also constantly coming and going. It was clear from the activity that this spot is popular, which gave me confidence in the quality of the food.
The wait time was slightly longer than expected, but Neil, the owner, let us know that some dishes are made fresh, which we appreciated.
The pricing is a bit higher than what you might find at other Caribbean, Trinidadian, or Guyanese spots, but considering how rare Surinamese cuisine is in the area, it felt justified. You’re paying for authentic, high-quality food, and this place did deliver. Overall, it was a hit, and I’d highly recommend checking it out!

Great Customer service! This was our first time having Surinamese food and Camala was very friendly and helpful! She educated us on the culture and the influences of Surinamese food. The food was also exceptional! The chicken was tender and everything was so flavorful!

We had a delicious dinner while out shopping on Liberty Avenue. Since we traveled to get to the area we ordered a lot so we have a taste of all the goodies. We had wonderful saoto soup ( if you love spicey food, add the sambal that goes with it) bakabana, teloh (casave) with salt fish, broodje pom and one with salt fish, which are these buns that you can fill with a topping. Both were excellent. We ended up taking home some snacks like bars and flensjes. The flensjes were my fav from the snacks we took home.
There was a little Christmas fair going on in the restaurant, which I liked since it was the holiday. It was cozy and people were friendly. We got to speak with the owners as well. Definitely going back!

A true taste of home that I’m so glad we found! As a Surinamese native who’s visited the Netherlands many times and always misses the food, PNK delivers! The whole staff is so warm and friendly, we felt like we were eating at our family’s home. Everything was delicious and fresh. We will definitely be returning!
