spot is such a fun place to hang out — upbeat music, colorful atmosphere, and super friendly staff. The food was fresh and full of flavor, and the drinks were amazing! Highly recommend trying the Paloma or the Jalapeño Margarita — both perfectly balanced and refreshing. Great spot for a date night or catching up with friends.

Came here after learning they had a dedicated vegan section on the menu and the options available did not disappoint! The soy “meat” and plant-cheese used was delicious! Highly recommend for anyone wanting to try vegan food. The atmosphere is lovely and the staff were all wonderful and attentive. Will be back and highly recommend!

I went to Plaza Azteca for the first time yesterday, and I was very impressed with it. The food (especially the guac) was really good, and it was great to see vegan options clearly labeled on the menu. The atmosphere and staff were great, too.

The only shady thing was that the drinks menu didn’t list prices on it — they should fix that.

Loved the atmosphere and design of the restaurant. The guac was a huge portion and we ate all of it. Price a little on the high side but would come back!

A few friends and I went to the new Plaza this past Friday- I believe it had just recently opened. We came around 7pm, and it was SLAMMED. We waited about 20 mins for a table for a group of 4, which I was expecting a much longer wait judging by how busy it appeared to be. Our server was so so sweet. She was patient, and was really doing the best she could with the loud, and busy atmosphere. The ambience in the new location is unmatched. Everything is so pretty, and the lighting is perfection. Our food and drinks all tasted great, and didn’t take too long to come out either. If you’ve been to the old location, this is a HUGE upgrade. And, hopefully people treat this restaurant with courtesy and respect because they sure didn’t have that at the old location. Keep it classy, or stick with McDonald’s.

I was home visiting in Cville. I met my cousin here. Omg this place decor is amazing, even the bathroom were awesome.
I order a pina colada it was very good.
For food I got salmon tacos something about the taco itself I didn’t care for, so I pulled the meat out and ate it with the rice.
My cousins food chicken fried didn’t come out correct.
The staff was amazing and corrected the order, thus the lower food rating.
I do highly recommend this restaurant and will visit again.
Job well done decorating.

This is my second time submitting my review. I dined @ thus restaurant on 2/14/25,for Valentine’s Day. My guest and I were seated fast. The atmosphere was brightly lit with beautiful colors to accentuate this cuisine. Staff very friendly. I ordered a cucumber jalapeño margarita which was amazing. So cuddos to the mixologist. Was very indecisive on the menu even though I’m familiar Mexican cuisine. So I ordered something on the menu similar to a ceviche. My partner ordered a burrito which was supposed to have a variety of chicken steak and shrimp. His order arrived with just steak. Not what he asks for so waited stare they would correct it. I received my order which was supposed to look like the first picture I will be disbanding but instead my meal which was a seafood meal came to me raw. I questioned thus and it was explained to me this dish is similar to a ceviche and lets the live cook it instead. I immediately became worried because of the high rise in the nora virus. Raw and under cooked shrimp can harbor harmful bacteria such as Vibrio, Salmonella , bacillus, ecoli. Nora virus lives in raw seafood so this was very alarming. Health Department should have been alerted.I work in healthcare so I’m completely aware and familiar with these issues.. I ask for them to take it back and ordered some guacamole instead. They did stating it would be removed which it was. The burrito sweet tea cucumber jalapeño margarita and guacamole came up to a whopping 70$. How idk but it happened . A bit pricey especially after being served raw seafood. Should have been compensated for this. Crazy work to me. I feel the owner revamped a great establishment but cut corners on staffing the chef/ cook. I don’t live in the area so this was my first and last visit there in reference to a meal.I ask please do NOT remove this 2nd review as the first one was removed. A review is your experience at ones place of business. This was my horrible experience. No matter how embarrassed this place of business is. I recommend a different Mexican establishment. This is a high trafficked area for health care workers and UVA College students. PLEASE DO BETTER! My photos are what I should have received and what I was served to eat.

If I could leave no stars, I would. First of all, me and my friend went for dinner and placed an order over the phone to go. We get there, I check the food and see how many fajitas I was getting for $22. I was disappointed when other people who were eating in got way more. Then we get back home, take our food out ready to eat, and my friend pours the queso over her enchiladas. There’s hair in it. We call them, and the guy says he can give her a refund, but we have to bring the food back. So, we go out of our way to bring the food back, and he says the hair isn’t from them and won’t remake the food. Like, the hair is short, and I have red hair, and her hair is long, so it’s not making sense. He has the nerve to go back and forth with a PAYING CUSTOMER!!

To make matters worse, the customer service was absolutely abysmal. The staff showed no empathy or concern for our situation. They were rude and dismissive, acting as if we were the ones at fault. It’s one thing to have a mistake happen, but it’s another to treat customers so poorly when trying to resolve the issue. We were made to feel like an inconvenience rather than valued customers.

This experience has completely turned me off from ever returning to this restaurant. The combination of overpriced food, poor portion sizes, unsanitary conditions, and terrible customer service is unacceptable. I would strongly advise others to avoid this place at all costs. Never again!

I came in today to pick up my to go order and everything seemed fine until i got home. I set everything up as usual and once i poured the cheese dip over my food a black hair was settled in it. When i called the restaurant to have the issue rectified they took a long time to take me off hold and the manager seemed to have comprehension issues causing me to repeat myself multiple times. Once the food was checked, money was offered back to me. I took my refund and was waiting on my food to be remade when i was informed that they would not remake my food and give me my money back for the inconvenience and said they were not “sure” if the hair was theirs. I have no problem paying for my order, so there’s no need to plant evidence on a goddamn thing and for that little comment corporate will be contacted as well as the BBB and health department. YOU NEVER KNOW WHOS WALKING IN AND WHO THEY KNOW. The true inconvenience was in me having to leave my house AGAIN after coming to pick it up the first time and having to return it for a hair and leave with no food. I hope this little interaction was worth it.

This was my first time at Plaza Azteca and it was a pretty disappointing experience. The service is good and the decor is interesting but the food just doesn’t measure up.

The chips tasted like they came out of a bag from the grocery store and the salsa has very little flavor. I had the Pollo Tropi which is chicken with shrimp and pineapple. The chicken was dry and overcooked and the shrimp was flavorless. The rice and beans were also dry and not very hot like they’ve been sitting out for a while. I had a draft beer with it and that wasn’t even very cold, closer to room temperature. The whole meal was just mediocre. I didn’t finish it and definitely did not take home any leftovers!
