I visited Playa Hermosa Fish & Oyster Co. recently and honestly had a really lovely experience.
The food was fresh, the salmon was great, and everyone there was so kind and welcoming.
The only thing I didn’t love was the pasta — it tasted a bit doughy and needed more seasoning.
But everything else was honestly wonderful.
The mashed potatoes were my favorite part — the little hint of coconut oil made them taste so special.
Overall, I really enjoyed my visit and would come back again.

I’ve been dining here for eight years, and it has never disappointed. There are so many reasons I keep coming back.
First, the food. It’s consistently delicious every single time. My personal favorites are the lobster mac ’n’ cheese, mussels, fish and chips, and the lobster bisque. Everything is flavorful, fresh, and prepared with care.
Second, the bar. The drinks are perfectly balanced—strong enough to enjoy, but never overpowering. There’s nothing worse than ordering a cocktail that tastes like juice with zero kick. That definitely doesn’t happen here. The El Chapo margarita (along with many others I’ve tried) will have you feeling warm and fuzzy after the first sip!
The location is another huge plus. If you enjoy people-watching, this is the spot. You get a perfect view of all the action, which makes the experience even more fun.
Most importantly, the staff. Joe, Nicole, and (I believe) El Dorado are fantastic. They’re friendly, personable, attentive, and always seem to anticipate what you need before you even ask. They offer great suggestions and are wonderful conversationalists. They truly make you feel welcome, and if they have a moment, they’ll happily stop and chat.
I also want to give a special shoutout to Joe, the manager. I was organizing an event for my women’s group—about 20 guests—and needed a venue that could work within a firm budget. When I called, Joe didn’t hesitate to accommodate us. Many other South Bay locations either didn’t respond or were outrageously expensive. This was seamless from start to finish.
Joe worked with me to select the appetizers and music, ensured we always had water refilled and glasses topped off, and made sure every detail was handled. We had plenty of wine and appetizers, and the front area was reserved just for our group. The event was wonderful, and Joe’s kindness and professionalism made it all so easy.
Highly recommend—this place truly stands out.

It is a nice-looking place and atmosphere near Hermoso Beach. The service was decent. The food tasted good. The price for 2 fish tacos was a rip-off, in my opinion. Platter of calamari was smaller than I expected. The oysters were okay, very small in size. The price didn’t match the quantity of food at all.

I came here twice on my last trip to LA for work, once with a work colleague and once with my husband and I wasn’t disappointed either time!
The cocktails were yummy (my fav was Jack Sparrow!) and the food was good too! We had lighter bites both times and would recommend (in fact I did to a few other work colleagues).
All the wait staff were super friendly and just the vibes were laid back and cool.
A great beach place to catch some sun & enjoy the area with good food and drinks.

Playa Hermosa Fish & Oyster is a solid dining spot along the Hermosa Pier area.
Food: This was good seafood and I didn’t hate anything I had. I kept it pretty standard to fish and chips while my son had Lobster Mac n cheese. It was tasty but not “I can only get this here” types of dishes. Maybe my opinion can change if I try other dishes.
Service: It was good but not super. I had to ask for my water refills and there was a shift change/waiter change during the experience. I was never denied anything but there wasn’t any extra catering to at the same time.
Atmosphere: This is a good hang out area to have some fish by the beach next to the Hermosa Pier. Great people watching opportunities while able to have some drinks and food.

This place is spectacular specially the oysters are really clean and fresh, are to die for and the clam chowder soup on bowl bread Was tasty and calamari good too! I recommend it. Customer Service is very attentive specially Alvaro.

Laidback seafood eatery by the pier. Came here on a Saturday after the Walk to End Alzheimer’s and it was open for a table of 6 immediately. Indoor and outdoor seating available. It’s family friendly and credit cards accepted. I had the fish tacos and they were huge – they came in two healing piles of cabbage, tomato’s, and avocado atop the fish (which can be grilled or fried). We had some elote for shared apps as well, which were tasty. Our server was chill and helpful.

We have been here numerous times inside as well as the patio and it has always been good food with relaxed, friendly service, making it feel right at home on the beach. There is some nice variety and spice on the menu. The restaurant has an open window to the kitchen and a bar at the back where they are known to put out some excellent drinks by locals in the know. There is a nice vibe and cool ocean island themed art on the walls. Parking is available in the parking structure just to the north of the pier plaza and also in the open lot just to the south. Overall this is a nice place you could do an informal event or a casual meal and you will have a great time.

The Fried Calamari here is also another standout. Great batter with a lot of flavor! Cooked well and very delish. The Clam Chowder was very filling too with a good amount of potato chunks and pieces of clam throughout. The Green Curry Mussles were my favorite and good to share! Lots of flavor!!
