I was really excited to try Playa Bowls—I like to consider myself an açaí bowl connoisseur, and I was excited to finally have a closer option instead of traveling all the way to Annapolis. Unfortunately, my experience was disappointing.
I ordered a smoothie since I was in a rush. When I arrived, there was a very sweet girl working at the counter who took my order and answered my questions. I noticed only two employees were working. After my order was taken, neither employee started making my smoothie. Instead, they focused on other tasks and chatting, and my order sat untouched.
I waited 10–15 minutes before my smoothie was even started. It wasn’t until several other customers began coming in that the second employee finally started helping with orders. Even then, there was little sense of urgency.
After waiting about 20 minutes total, I went up to the counter to ask how much longer it would be since I was in a rush. The employee apologized and said she was about to start my order—despite the fact that I had already been waiting for quite some time. She then began making my smoothie, which still took a while.
Additional employees eventually arrived, and I received multiple apologies, which I appreciated. However, the wait felt completely unnecessary—especially considering I was the only customer in the store when I placed my order, and my smoothie wasn’t started until after 10–15 minutes had passed and other customers arrived.
While preparing my smoothie, the employee asked whether I wanted peanut butter around the cup or blended into the smoothie. I asked for it blended and also requested that the additional topping of bee pollen that I paid for be added on top. She agreed and apologized again. However, after nearly 30 minutes total, my smoothie was not made the way I had requested. I think she forgot my bee pollen.
I typically don’t leave reviews, but I was genuinely disappointed by the lack of urgency and inefficient workflow. In my experience working at a smoothie shop, orders were always started immediately to avoid backups and long wait times. This situation made no sense given the circumstances and felt like customer orders simply weren’t a priority.
I really wanted to enjoy this place, but the experience fell far short of expectations. I hope this location improves its efficiency and customer service moving forward. Super cute spot!

First time I went there they weren’t even busy and it took so long to make a smoothie. Gave them a second shot today and not only were they slow, but they got the order size wrong. When he re made it, the smoothie was terrible! It was watery and had no flavor. Think I’m done with this place, especially at those prices!

Was very excited to try this place as I love smoothies, placed my order online for pickup. As I walk inside the place looks great but that’s about it, first interaction with employee wasn’t a hello or good morning it was “what’s the name” hands me my drink and says have a good one. Ok that’s fine, as I look at my smoothie I can already tell there isn’t any granola in it as I requested. I take a few sips and the flavor is very bland and no taste of granola, I come back nicely and same employee see’s me and says “what’s up?” Not is there anything wrong or could I help you with anything else… I mention the no granola and the employee quickly tells me there is in it and as I say oh I don’t taste any, employee quickly tells me again they know it’s in my drink because they “made it”. Interesting, I ask if it’s ok to add more granola (I’ll pay for extra) employee says they “don’t think we can take drinks back” all they can do for me is give me a side of granola… which I have to put into my smoothie without being crushed or anything lol. Very unfortunate a place so nice and exciting for the community will have to deal with employees who doesn’t care. I might be back I’m not sure, first impression was very very underwhelming from customer service to actual taste of my smoothie.

We heard good things about the bowls , but when we ordered online it said 30 min wait. We got the email order was ready. We go in and nothing was ready. We had to wait almost 40 mins after we got the email to get our order. They need a better system. People said they were waiting almost an hour for orders. People who came in after us were getting their orders.

I love playa bowl but almost everytime I come to this location, either one of my toppings are missing or my smoothie bowl is a melted mess. Really wish there was some consistency with this location, customers do not want a bowl of melted smoothie and fruit ♀️
