Reviews
40 minutes later, after being seated by our hostess- Christine, we placed our order almost immediately, but it took 1.5 hours for our food to arrive.
When I went to remind the hostess who was inside, at the counter, about our order, she mentioned that the initial 40-minute wait time also meant we may have an additional wait time for our order to be prepared, which was not communicated to us.
Despite there being only two occupied tables outside, both the parties had the same complaint about the slow service.
The management needs to hire mature staff who are committed to providing better customer service. When our food finally arrived 1.5 hours after placing the order, another server, Damian, just dumped the food on our table and seemed upset.
Although the food was okay, I am giving PJ Pancake House 2 stars due to the significant customer service issues we experienced.
On a positive note, our server Christine was apologetic and compassionate, and she understood our frustration. She was wonderful!
Occasion: Sister’s Birthday Brunch
Dress Code: Casual
Parking:
There’s a small free parking lot on the side of the building. I imagine one will need to find street parking on busier days.
Ambiance / Service:
This was my first time at Pj’s. Upon arrival, the restaurant had a cozy feel. Before entering the seating area you’re treated to a delicious display of baked goodies. Our host received us almost immediately and sat us on the upper floor of the restaurant. Staff members had their masks on and customers were socially distanced. We had 8 people in our party but were told that by law, they can only sit 6 people at a table and so we opted to split into two groups of 4 in separate booths. We weren’t far from each other so it worked out fine. Our server was patient and friendly.
Food:
Reasonably priced and the portions were generous. I ordered the Tiramisu Pancakes with Fried Chicken. The Tiramisu is typically spread in between the stacks but I asked our server to put it on the side so that I can control the portions. The pancakes were perfection! So delicious, the addition of the Tiramisu just elevated things. While the chicken had great flavor, it was a little dry. My husband ordered the Mediterranean Omelet with the addition of smoked salmon w/ peppers and onions. The omelet came with some Mashed Browns (potatoes) and your choice of toast. This dish w/the additions tasted great! My sister’s boyfriend ordered the Middle Eastern Skillet which I just had to try. If you already love Middle Eastern food you enjoy this dish. I didn’t taste the Fish & Chip sliders but the fries were good.
Final Thoughts: I’ve found my house of pancakes. The food and the service was great! We will surely visit again.
*Update I came back for breakfast a week after this review was left. I still feel the same way. This time I got strawberry banana pancakes that were amazing! I kept reading reviews about how great their coffee is so I was excited to try it. I wouldn’t say it was great coffee, it was just average. But the food is definitely worth the trip. I tried the buffalo chicken wrap and was highly disappointed! The chicken was fried too hard and I got sick after eating only half of it. The southwestern omelette was bland. Pj’s is great for pancakes… but every time I try something else, I end up disappointed.
Reuben. It’s served on a Texas type toast with a side salad.
The best thing I could say about them is the super friendly staff. You’re very accommodating to people. I’ve brought there to have mobility issues. Their patience and understanding of the limitations. And they go out of their way to make everybody feel comfortable.
They also have a great selection of desserts you can get with your meal or on the way out. I forgot to take pictures of my food, but when I go again I’ll add them.
Enjoy the atmosphere, the hospitality and most of all, the delicious food. Just read the rest of the reviews and this is just another validation. This place has character. Just take a look around you when you are there. People are enjoying their food and the ambiance. Probably one of the best brunch restaurants in NJ.
If you’re around Princeton and want to indulge, don’t miss out. Just remember parking is limited but entirely worth the wait.
Will be returned next week with a friend.
I love the smoked salmon omelette I ordered. That thing was stuffed with salmon. Yum~
The pancakes were gigantic! They are as big as my face. We ordered Half (3 pieces). I doubt anyone can finish a Full pancake dish (5 pieces).
We got fresh strawberry pancakes, all-meat omelette with side of french toasts, special omelette with a side of pancakes, and smoked salmon omlette with “smashbrown” and toast.
Great place to go for breakfast or brunch.
