I’ve been here thrice, the first two times with my landlady who recommended the place cause of their good food & service, and then with my mother recently. The food has always been good, be it pasta, pizza or steak. Also, the complimentary bruschetta at the start and grappa/schnaps at the end are great!
Why do I rate service as 1 star then? Cause of what I perceive as discrimination. On my previous visits with my landlady (a Kücknitz local), the service was friendly, and a single employee was assigned to a table and attentive to our needs. However, this was not the same during my recent visit with my mom, who travelled continents to see me. And yes, all three times we reserved a table in advance and there were no problems with being seated.
We were seemingly passed on from one employee to the next for each stage so it was not clear who was assigned to us (We counted 5 employees serving us at different points). We were also made to wait for quite a while, close to a half hour after our remaining food was packed. We didn’t expect that WE had to be the ones asking the staff for our requests, even the bill, considering previous positive experiences and observing the tables around us being served efficiently with friendliness while we were seemingly invisible or treated with some condescension. I’d have maybe excused it as an ‘busy hour’ without prior knowledge but it was not so, especially when you recognise staff from before treating you differently based on who you’re with or how you look. Basically, ‘If you don’t look like a local, don’t come here’ is the message I got from them.
PS: The younger employees seemed to be nice, they just happened to not be around our seating area.
