It’s honestly hard to find really good pizza in Pittsburgh, so this place truly surprised us.
The dough is delicious, with great texture and flavor, and overall the pizza tastes excellent. One thing we really appreciated is that when you order extra toppings, they don’t skimp at all — they’re generous, and you can tell the ingredients are high quality.

We ordered a half anchovy, half artichoke pizza, and both sides were full of flavor and very well balanced. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, and it even transports you a bit to a classic Italian pizzeria cantina, not because of a fake decoration but because of its simplicity!! Definitely a spot worth coming back to.

We came here after a long day of car shopping. We ordered a pizza which was excellent. My only woes were the level of service we received which is why I docked a star. We waited a long time for a table despite there being open tables and when we were served, our waitress seemed annoyed that we were there. We paid in cash and noticed that she shorted us on the amount we were supposed to get back. We understand they were probably overwhelmed, but the level of service we received did not match the quality of food. We’re willing to give this place another shot especially since the menu is extensive!

Yummy!

This was our first visit to pizzaz. It’s a very popular restaurant, and I can definitely see why! The food is really good and the service is top-notch. Family owned and a local business, they serve up homemade soups, Italian specialities, pizzas, wings, sandwiches, salads and burgers. We chose the pizza and it was delish! Would definitely return!

The restaurant design is very comfy. I’m guessing that it is in the same design that it was in originally and nothing has changed, but it really gives it that comfy familiar feeling when you are in it. The tucked nook booths, along with the designs of the chairs, the old cash register, and the stained glass design windows really add to the charm.

The bar is “Cheers” style if you like that vibe! Happy hour drinks, good for watching sports. Outdoor seating available.

Lunch, dinner and dessert available. Credit and debit cards accepted. Catering offered. Accepts reservations. Nice for groups. Good for kids with high chairs and kids menus.

* wheelchair, accessible entrance, parking lot, seating and restrooms.

I have been here a couple of times previously and found the food and service pleasant. Tonight we brought out of town guests. We arrived around 5:30 and was seated promptly. My Reuben sandwich was very good. My husband’s Pittsburgh hoagie was a three out of five as the taste was pretty lackluster. The service was average, but what made my atmosphere review come down was that all four of us were freezing through the whole meal. I mentioned it to the waitress, but she said there wasn’t anything she could do about it. I wore a heavy jean jacket and was still freezing. Not pleasant.

When I moved to the area 3 years ago this has been a staple when we want to support a local business. Last night we stopped and waited 20 mins before someone even greeted us at the door. When we said there was 7 of us 2 older hostess type ladies rolled their eyes and were very unpleasant and then just walked away they then came back 10 mins later and now there was an even longer line of people waiting to be sat. We’ve gone there plenty of times with 5 adults and 2 kids and never a hassle but these 2 ladies were very unpleasant and walked way mumbling ‘5 adults 2 kids that’s still 7’. Like ok we’ve never had an issue before and there is a sign saying reservations for 10 or more. I get that restaurants get busy but at least great us tell us there is a wait or the situation before getting an attitude and walking away. 30+ mins of poor communication and attitude that we decided to go elsewhere.

Pizzaz has been a longtime feature on Route 19. Any place that survives as long as this place has must be pretty good, right? Also, they bill themselves as an Italian restaurant, so both those factors led us to try them out for dinner on a recent Saturday night. We came early as we were worried about having a long wait. While the place was busy, it is actually quite large and there was no wait for us to be seated – which was nice. As we waited for our server, and our meals, we observed the other patrons and the flow of customers. Lots of family groups and lots of takeout business. The décor is definitely not Italian. Maybe a bar, or maybe quasi-German? Could not really decide.

We asked the waitress to help us decide between the Cod and the house Burger. She was adamant that the burger was the way to go, so we went with her recommendation. Since they claim to be an Italian restaurant, we also went with an Italian standard of the Chicken Parmesan. To round out the meal, we got the Zucchini planks. We also saw lots of people getting Pizza, Calzones, Hoagies, and other Pasta dishes in the tables around us.

The Zucchini Plans were big slices of Zucchini that were breaded and deep fried. The marinara that came with it was chunky and flavorful. While the batter was rather crispy and not as light as some of the egg batters we’ve had in other restaurants around town, it was also not greasy and was enjoyable. There were way too many planks for two people and we took at least half the order home with us.

The burger also delivered on its promise. It was big, had lots of toppings, and while the meat itself was only seasoned with salt and pepper, all those toppings made for a flavorful burger. The fries that came with it were decent.

On the other hand, the Chicken Parmesan was sad. The chicken itself was barely coated and was fried. Then, a single slice or Provolone cheese was placed on top of the chicken after it was placed on a portion of Spaghetti. When the assembly was delivered to the table, the cheese had barely bent, let alone melted! The Spaghetti was decent and the same marinara sauce was used on it that came with the Zucchini.

The Chicken was supposed to come with a side salad. That never showed up. We pointed this out to the waitress, who sincerely apologized. She then packed it up (we had no more room to try and eat it) and gave us an option of one of their desserts as compensation. That was a nice move.

Reflecting on everything that we saw and tasted left me feeling conflicted. On the one hand, the staff we observed were hustling. The wait staff and the cleaning crews were in constant motion. There were plenty of people in attendance, working. As noted in the paragraph above, the one problem we had was taken care of promptly. On the other hand, they call themselves an Italian Restaurant and the Italian dish was the worst one we ordered. I guess if we come back, we’ll stick with the bar food or pizza and not get hung up on what they choose to style themselves as…

I ordered an Italian Hoagie and it come out burnt. With a very dry crumbling bun (the bun was more than dried almost like a biscotti), and burnt meat. They did give me my extra onion but forgot my side of dressing. The waitress brought me a new bun and the dressing and never came back for me to complain. I had to cut the burnt meat off my sandwich and rebuild my food.
Finally, she came back after I finished eating when I could eat of my sandwich and I asked her what she could do for this inconvenience. She said she would speak to her manager which she did and they took it off my bill.
I was there on an average Friday night. I saw a numerous people come in and leave and only a few waitresses. I saw one table never get the meal and left.
Personally, I don’t know if I would ever come back again. Meanwhile, other peoples food look perfectly normal. My dad ordered the same meal as I did and his look delicious. My mom ordered a steak hoagie and she said it was wonderful, but never received her side of Italian dressing.

Very disappointed tonight. We have spent lots of money over many visits here. Normally a nice experience. But tonight all of us who were in line to be seated were greeted by a very rude hostess. She was mad at group in front of us because they had 8 and didn’t make a reservation. She said you know it’s the weekend you should have done it. They don’t take them for under 10 per their own website. We had a large group too so we left and so did another party. Glad to take our business elsewhere.

Had a very good pizza. The owner/hostess needs to learn how to act with her staff! Loud, rude, and right in the middle of the dining room!

Usually, the pizza is pretty great. This time…not so much. Take-out order, ready just as we went in to pick it up. Did the dough recipe change? Just NOT the same as it’s always been. The hair in the pizza I nearly consumed made it worse. There are plenty of other restaurants we will patronize going forward.
