Reviews
I am highly respected on google reviews with thousands of views on my profile. Many of my following will not be visiting here either.
My family and I met a couple of friends there for dinner. One of our friends had already eaten and joined us solely to socialize. My family paid for our meals, as did one of our friends. After we were seated, a staff member approached us and informed us that our friend who was not eating would need to either pay or leave, as this was company policy.
I fully understand and respect a business’s right to establish and enforce its policies. However, this policy was not communicated to us at any point prior to payment. It was neither posted nor verbally explained. For comparison, signage clearly indicates that customers will be charged if soda is placed in a water cup, demonstrating that the restaurant does communicate certain policies. When I asked how we would have known about this particular policy, I did not receive a clear answer.
I requested to speak with a manager and was informed that the individual addressing us was the manager. The restaurant was fairly empty at the time, so I suggested that staff simply monitor our table to ensure our friend did not consume any food. This suggestion was declined. Instead, we were told that our friend would need to pay, leave, or sit on a bench near the entrance. I was genuinely surprised that asking our guest to sit by the door while the rest of us dined was presented as an acceptable solution.
At that point, our friends indicated they would leave. I then requested a refund, as we no longer wished to dine under those circumstances. Although I had paid by card, I asked whether a cash refund could be issued, since I was told it would take three to five business days for the refund to appear on my account. I was informed that a cash refund was not possible. I was given a receipt showing a total of $0.00, but it did not include any card information to confirm that the transaction had been reversed to my account. When I asked how I could verify that the refund would be processed, I was simply told that it would be. This was particularly frustrating, as I had just spent nearly $70 on a meal we would not be eating, could not receive funds to use elsewhere that evening, and was offered no concrete assurance beyond a verbal statement that the refund would be processed.
I asked whom I could contact the following day to share my concerns. The staff member at the front contacted the owner, James, by phone. During the call, she turned away in an apparent attempt at a private conversation, though I could overhear negative remarks being made about us. She then handed me the phone. From the beginning, the conversation with James was heated and dismissive. It was clear he had no intention of listening to our concerns or working toward a resolution. He stated that they were not required to post such policies and strongly defended his staff. While I appreciate an owner supporting his employees, the complete lack of accountability and unwillingness to acknowledge the communication issue was both surprising and disappointing.
Had we been made aware of this policy before paying, we would have made an informed decision about whether to dine there that evening. We respect business policies; our concern is that this one was not disclosed until after payment was taken. This was especially confusing given that staff were aware of the size of our party before processing the transaction.
This restaurant has been one of our family’s favorite places to eat, and we recently hosted a birthday celebration there. However, this experience has caused us to no longer feel comfortable continuing to support or recommend your establishment.
I hope you will take this feedback seriously and consider reviewing how policies are communicated to customers to prevent similar situations in the future.
First time at this brand (ever).
I really liked the salad and pasta bars. The dessert bar was also good, but at times, it was not stocked well.
In our group of 8 (4 adults and 4 kids under the age of 8), all the kids and two adults really enjoyed the pizza. These six are locals and come here often. My wife thought the pizza was okay -to- good. I did not like the pizza at all. My wife and I each tried a variety of pizzas. Some she enjoyed more than others. For me, it was the sauce and crust that turned me off. It is a typical high volume (inexpensive) sauce/crust you can get at any discount pizza place.
I do have pretty high pizza standards, given I worked in this industry from age 11 – 50, including a time as the operations manager for a pizza chain. I note this solely to point out a majority of our group (7 of 8) would come back again. I could be the problem one.
On a side note, while appearing very busy and numerous staff working tonight, I saw long periods – with dirty dishes piling up on the table while the customers are eating. This is not appealing to me personally. My son tells me they often have to stack the dirty dishes around the table when they come here as they do not clear things from the table until you get up and leave. For example, a large group left, and they came in to clear things off. The employee and his cart were next to our table. At the end of our table (stacked very high) were plates, etc from 8 people who had finished eating salad, pasta, and pizza. We were getting ready to have dessert. The staff member, after clearing the table of the party that left, looked at us and the pile and started waking away. We had to ask him to take our stack of plates. He almost looked confused.
We tried to brush it off and enjoy the night, but halfway through our meal a family of 7 was seated at one of the larger tables we had asked about. That part was frustrating and honestly didn’t make much sense.
I do want to give credit where it’s due: the employee who was cleaning tables noticed what happened and went out of her way to check on us every 10 minutes. Her kindness and awareness were appreciated and helped salvage the experience.
Food was fine as expected, but the seating policy (or at least how it was enforced) took away from what should’ve been a simple, fun birthday dinner. Some flexibility and consistency would go a long way.
