I had my order ready to go on the app. It was going to be $19.94. The app wouldnt let me checkout. No big deal. It was a quick phone call away.
I called and placed the order. It was $9 more to order over the phone. Again, no big deal. My wife wanted it. She makes as much, if not more than me, so it’s her money. She deserves to have everything she wants.
The food was ready. It was hot and ended up tasting just as good as always. The problem was the checkout.
I should have got the guys name. All I have is a description. A dirty red-headed guy with an unruly beard. (I am not red-headed but I also have an unruly beard).
I only had two twenties. Even though I was not getting a delivery, they have a tip bucket. I planned on giving a 4$tip. I asked 4 a 5 and 5 ones. He started to do that then said he couldn’t. That’s understandable because he needed change for others for the rest of the night.
I said, “that’s fine. I will just take 1 out of here I started to grab a $1 out of the bucket to replace it with a $5. He ripped the $1 out of my hand grabbed the bucket like he was Gollum and it was his precious. He then replied, I would rather you not do that.”
I was still not angry, I was wierded out. Who wouldnt want to exchange a $5 for a $1?
He could have been thinking maybe I was trying to steal his tips because of my unruly beard, but he had all of my information saved in his computer. I was in my work uniform, I had literally given him $40 for a less than $29 purchase. It made no sense. He hugged the bucket like I was going to steal it. I said, “will you do it then?”
He slowly set the bucket down, and started counting ones (there were 5’s also in the bucket). I told him that I just want $1 so I can leave a $4 tip. He reluctantly gave a $1 bill which I replaced with my $5. He then grabbed my food handed it to me and didnt say a word. No thank you. No have a good evening. No nothing.
I may be being a bit petty, but that dude ruined that Pizza Hut for me. He may have ruined my tipping policy for all carry out food service.
If my wife wants Pizza Hut in the future, I will not be picking it up from 310 N. St. Joseph Ave. Evansville, IN 47712.
