There used to be a classic Italian Bakery in every town in Eastern Massachusetts
Many have sold out and now arpatments or a Starbucks or similar.
Not Piros.
Classic Fresh Italian Breads.
Hand made and decorated cakes for every occasion.
Classic Italian Pastry Cannoli hand filled, Eclairs, cookies, etc.
And to top it off beach style sicilan Pizza, Cutlets, Eggplat , and Italian Specialty meals right next door in the same building Piros Pizza Plus.
I rarely leave reviews, but my recent experience with Piro’s Bakery was so disappointing that I feel compelled to share. I placed a cake order for a holiday celebration and expected a smooth and professional transaction. What I received was the exact opposite.
Upon arrival, I was told my order was lost. Then, suddenly, it was found—only for me to be handed the wrong cakes, one of which was clearly old. The writing was barely visible, the decorations were bleeding, and the overall presentation was completely unacceptable. When I voiced my concerns to the staff, I was told there was nothing they could do because it was Easter weekend. I asked to speak with a manager and was informed “no manager was on duty”—on one of the busiest weekends of the year.
To resolve the issue, I was told I needed to bring back the incorrect cakes in order to receive the correct ones. Not only is that inconvenient, but it also raised a serious question about food safety. If cakes are returned, are they just being resold to other customers?
When I returned to the bakery, I was again told there was no manager available. However, to my surprise, another staff member placed an internal call and—suddenly—the manager was located in the back of the store the entire time. When she finally came out, her response to my concerns was: “Well, you have the correct cakes now. Have a great weekend.” No apology. No ownership. No attempt at meaningful resolution. It was clear she just wanted me to go away.
After I called her back and demanded a refund, she implied I was at fault because I had “gotten an extra cake” and continued to cite how busy the bakery was due to the holiday. I reminded her that if a business cannot manage the volume of orders, it is their responsibility to limit orders—not penalize customers with poor service. My time is valuable too, and I intentionally hired a bakery to alleviate the stress of a busy holiday.
In the end, I did receive a refund—but not without being told to leave the property. What was most baffling was the manager’s attitude. She acted like she was the one being wronged, when in reality, I was the paying customer simply asking for what I ordered.
Mistakes happen. But how a business handles them speaks volumes. At no point did anyone at Piro’s take responsibility or try to make things right in a respectful or professional manner. Blaming the customer and hiding behind the excuse of being “busy” is unacceptable.
I will not be returning—and I sincerely hope they rethink how they treat their customers moving forward. It is the lying, victimization, and lack of professionalism that will keep me from returning.
What kept it from being a full 5 stars was the price. The Italian cookies seemed a bit overpriced to me. But other than that everything was great. I don’t mind paying more for quality but I was sticker shocked for sure at the register.
Cannoli is better when it’s small. It’s the perfect amount of cream. The photo is their big cannolis.
That pie seems to be Ricardo pie. It’s filling is cheese. Tastes very good!
