I tried Pirogue’s Seafood Shack on Gardere because I wanted to support the new business in the same spot I used to visit—but I left seriously disappointed.
The crawfish were way too hard—like rock hard, couldn’t even suck the heads. And the only “flavor” I got was heat. It tasted like straight crab boil and cayenne pepper—no real seasoning or depth, just burn.
The corn and potatoes were bland and felt like an afterthought. As for the snow crab legs, they were overcooked—the meat was tough, stringy, and barely there.
The so-called sauce tasted like watered-down ramen noodle juice with Sazon tossed in—absolutely not it.
I paid $25, and honestly, it wasn’t worth half that. I really wanted to like this place, but I won’t be back.

Don’t let the outside fool you, this place is a hidden gem. The food is fresh and cooked and seasoned to perfection. The prices were very reasonable and the staff were very welcoming and friendly. Looks like I have a new local seafood spot!

I stopped in for a shrimp basket and was seriously impressed. The shrimp were perfectly cooked crispy on the outside and tender, and on the inside with just the right seasoning everything tasted super fresh and flavorful on top of the great food. The service was top-notch, friendly, tentative and welcoming from start to finish the owners are some of the nicest people I’ve met. They clearly care about their food and their customers. It’s not often you find a place that gets both food and the experience so right I’ll definitely be coming back.
