Fantastic food and ambience! I love coming here for a nice, waaaay too filling meal!
The location is perfect for eating and then seeing a movie, and the food is tender and fantastic!
The drink menu has classic favorites AND new mixes that are fun and interesting.
Upscale Indian food done very well with great service. I definitely recommend it and I would have posted more photos, but the lamb was too delicious to wait for pictures.

Pippal has a decent spread of regional Indian cuisine flavors. The service is subpar for it’s price-tag and the food options at best an earnest attempt to be a dabbler. For a fine-dinning experience, there are several “better options” in the Bay Area like Ettan, Copra and many more that will leave you with a good taste as well as heartfelt dining experience.

Most liked appetizer by our group was the “Chapli Kebab”, a minced mutton delicacy. This and the “Meat (mutton) Dhansak Pulao” were our favorites and I think the Chef is really good with cooking Goat. Other highlights of our meal was the “Chicken Tikka Trio”.

Things that we didn’t like:
“Chicken 65” was sweet, not how it’s meant to be. “Fish Amritsari” was like random fried dish you’ll get anywhere. “Chicken Momo” was not juicy and alright.

“Chicken Korma” was weird, it had 2 legs of chicken, egg, and chicken seekh – a really odd way of serving a curry. Same thing with the “Mango Alleppey Fish & Prawn Curry”, might be better to pick one of the two instead of mixing them.

The “Lucknowi Chicken (hen) Biryani” didn’t look appetizing at all and “Mutton Ahua” gave us a home-cooked taste that we might prefer making ourselves :). Dahi Vada Chaat was decent.

Was worth a try, an earnest dabbler!

Sophisticated Experience at Pippal. We started off seating Al-Fresco to enjoy the sunset atmosphere while having the stylish cocktails and then settled inside a cozy corner with plush decor to slowly enjoy the soothing ambiance for the main meal. The hosts were unhurried, attentive and knowledgeable about the various choices at hand and the presentation of the food was commendable. The Bihari Lamb Chops were my favorite. Also nice was the Pippal Dal which was nicely smoky with lovely Ghee. The Mango Alleppey Fish & Prawn Curry and the Anda Curry were superlative to the senses and were quite a delight. The kulfi falooda was uniquely done and presented and we all shared that one dessert amongst our party. All in All, a very nice experience especially while driving back on a Sunday from the Sonoma Coast and a good way to end a weekend full of adventure.

The food was incredible. The service was attentive and fast. One of the best meals I have had in ages. The GM was working hard to ensure everything was running smoothly and the servers were incredible.

We had a wonderful dinner at Pippal! The food is exceptional – bold, flavorful, and beautifully plated. You can truly tell that Chef Munish pours his heart into every dish. The tandoori prawns and duck curry were our favorites! The staff made us feel right at home, and the whole experience was delightful from start to finish.
Also the place has a cheerful vibe and centrally located in ist bay street mall..
The great news is THEY ARE RECENTLY COMMING UP IN TASSAJARA RD DUBLIN VERY SOON

I recently celebrated my mom’s birthday at Pippal, and it was a fantastic experience! The food was delicious, and even my parents, who are usually hard to please with outside food, loved it. Each dish was unique and flavorful, setting it apart from other Indian restaurants in the Bay Area. The vibe was amazing, and we had no complaints whatsoever. Highly recommend! Will be returning many times in the future.

We’ve been to Pippal several times. We especially enjoy the pippal dal and the paneer makhani. The beetroot roti is also excellent.

The atmosphere is upscale yet warm and inviting.

The service is top notch. The general manager, Salman, always checks in on us when we dine here. And the wait staff is attentive, knowledgeable, and welcoming.

Visited Pippal in Emeryville recently and while the overall ambience, staff, and service were good (but a little slow), the food experience left a lot to be desired. The outdoor seating could benefit from more spacious table arrangements—it felt a bit cramped.

However, the real disappointment was the portion sizes and value for money. For a restaurant positioned as premium in a prime location, the portions—especially for appetizers and drinks—were unreasonably small. For example, paying $8 for half a glass of lassi served in a small glass just didn’t add up. The food quality also didn’t justify the pricing. Sadly, despite the nice setting and good service, I’d think twice before returning based on the current pricing and portion model.

The staff is wonderful—alert, courteous, and engaging. However, the litti choka was a bit disappointing. It’s baked rather than grilled over charcoal, which makes it hard to bite into and takes away from the authentic texture. Traditionally, litti should have a firm yet moist bite that comes from slow charcoal roasting—something that was missing here.

Pippal brings a fresh take on pan-Indian cuisine, offering well-crafted dishes from across the country. The food is excellent—flavorful, well-prepared, and beautifully presented.

While the mall setting is decent and service could be better, the food arrives quickly.

Highly recommend trying unique dishes like litti chokha and gutta curry for a delightful taste of central India!
