Inviting space! Great selection of classic Italian dishes.
Less ingredients and flavoring in all dishes than expected.

Pietro’s Cucina Italiana blew me away — hands down some of the best Italian food I’ve had in a very long time. The flavors were rich, fresh, and authentic, with each pasta dish tasting like it was made with real care and tradition.

The creamy pesto gnocchi was incredibly smooth and flavorful, and the baked pasta was perfectly cheesy and comforting without being too heavy. You could tell every ingredient was thoughtfully chosen. Even the presentation, with the edible flowers, added a special touch.

It’s a cozy, family-owned spot with old-school charm and genuinely warm service. Whether you’re a local or just passing through La Mesa, this place is a must-visit if you appreciate quality Italian food. I’ll absolutely be back.

We have been coming here for over 20 years…We have been out of the area for the last 2 years and came back last night. We found, as expected, that the original owner Pietro aka Peter finally retired and we hope is enjoying life! We were pleased to see that the atmosphere and food still carries the long standing tradition of great food and family that Pietro worked so hard for.. Pietro….rest assured your legacy is being carried on and your signature dishes are alive and well.. The Brushetta and Pietro’s salad are still the best. And whatever secret you passed down for the canoli still wows.. We wished continued success for the neighborhood gem and the best to Pietro and his family

Wow! We’ve been in La Mesa for decades and know some people who now the owners of Pietro’s but this week was the first time we ever tried it. What a delight! All the food was great, the service was very personable and quick, and the atmosphere is cozy. We came for an early dinner and were very hungry, our waiter told jokes and accommodated our every request. We had the fried zucchini and bruschetta which had large portions, and a large pizza to share. For dessert we tried the limoncello cake and it was very good. And the prices are very, very reasonable. Cannot wait to come back and try some pasta!

We had the garlic bread parmigiana, calamari, baked rigatoni, and the daily special – the butternut squash ravioli in a cheesy bread bowl. The food was great, the service excellent, and the ambiance perfect. Bonus points for making it a breeze to have our one year old baby with us for a night out. They were exceedingly accommodating and warm. Would definitely go again!

This place is great! My wife and I have been here a few times since moving to the neighborhood, and everything has been delicious. We’ve been searching for a good pizza and finally found it here. The lasagna is hands down the best I’ve ever had. You can definitely tell they use high-quality ingredients and know exactly what they’re doing. Highly recommend!

Stumbled upon this place just expecting some rinky dink italian food and sticky menus from the unassuming outside like so many casual spots have, but instead I got delicious food and crazy hospitality that I had to brag about to my grandma after I left.
The chicken piccata was really good but more importantly, it was served with basically the best garlic bread I’ve ever had at a restaurant??? Im still thinking about that bread two days later. Super delish, super great service, super good pricing and portions, just super duper.
Also for some reason the decor in the bathroom is gorgeous, lol.
Thank you Pietro’s! ❤️
