Pier 23 is a popular restaurant in between fisherman wharf and the Ferry Building. The food is good, although, reading the reviews and the recommendation for a reservation, and how hard it is to get a table – I would have expected it to be stellar, which It’s not, but it is good. My dining companion and I wanted to try many things, so we over ordered. Highlights: the crab cakes were good, the fish rillette is actually quite tasty, and the chowder was also very good. The calamari was OK, but nothing to write home about. Service was prompt and decent, and the atmosphere is about what one would expect for an establishment in this part of SF, with a rather out of place Chinese god of good fortune statue on the patio. Overall, definitely worth a try if you’re in the area, although I do not know that I would go out of my way to go again. My assumption as to why its reviews are so high are probably its proximity to the cruise ship docking area – and I will say it is better than the average tourist trap restaurant that is found in Fisherman’s Wharf. Definitely worth a try.

I’ve been wanting to try this place for many, many years. Had up I had the opportunity yesterday to try it with my daughter and grandson. It was the price that bothered me. It was the taste. Service was friendly but could have been more on top of us to make sure everything was good. It was a great environment and it was a cool place to eat at. I always say it’s worth a try.. I got a half a crab and yet it was okay. It was very small. My daughter got two fish tacos and said they were okay. And my grandson got mac and cheese which she liked. So I would recommend trying this place. I might have hit it at a bad time. I don’t know. I doubt I will go back. I hope they improve because it’s a real nice place

Pier 23 Cafe has been a waterfront favorite for years, and living nearby, I still enjoy stopping by when the weather is nice. The restaurant sits right on the Embarcadero, with outdoor tables stretching to the pier’s edge and a casual, lively atmosphere that always feels welcoming.
On my last visit, we were greeted with a smile and quickly seated out back, where the porch offers a partial but beautiful view of the San Francisco Bay. The vibe is relaxed, the service is friendly, and the food comes out quickly. The cheeseburger stood out as the favorite at our table, though everyone was happy with their meal.
This is a great spot for brunch, lunch, or just drinks and snacks by the water. If you’re walking along the Embarcadero or visiting Fisherman’s Wharf, Pier 23 Cafe is an easy choice for good food, good drinks, and a great San Francisco setting.

Great food! Only helpful suggestion would be is to have designated server sections. It got a little odd having different servers come and ask if we’re ready to order. Having your own designated server would be a lot more comfortable. Keep up the great work!

We were on a cruise and decided to stop by before reboarding our ship and Pier 23 did not disappoint. Their fish and chips are delicious and are enough to share with another person. Their fish tacos were also good and reminded us of Baja tacos. Beer was nice and cold, service was fast and friendly. Definitely recommend.

There’s nothing worse than a restaurant that gives itself a 20% tip for average service. You have no choice here if there is 5 people or more, you are going to be slugged an addional 20% and then asked if you would like to give a tip on top of that. You can read it in the fine print on the menu, in light grey text against the white paper!! Please tell me what the hell this is for? Apparently “ every Restaraunt in San Francisco does it” .. well why not be different and give great service for tips instead of standard service because you know the tip is included already.
Food was ok, typically overpriced for the area and definitely on the greasy side so ask for extra napkins.
Service was standard and ok, nothing extraordinary. The guy who brought the food out basically threw the meals down randomly and didn’t say a word.
Chocolate mousse very rich and not enjoyable.
There are better options around the area.

Absolutely the worst dining experience ever. Waited at the table for about 15 minutes before someone came over. The table was dirty. and the check from the previous customer still sitting there. They didn’t clean it off. I asked for water and he pointed to a bottle on the table. “How about some glassed with ice”? No silverware either. He seemed anger that he had to do something. The sandwich came and there was black soot all over the meat. I told the waitress and she told the manager. The manager came over and asked if I was going to eat it. I said no and all she said was sorry. REALLY! I had to ask for the bill 3 times. Don’t waste your hard earned money here!!

The food is decent, but the restaurant itself is very dirty.
Lots of trash and food waste everywhere. Seats are sticky. A lot of bugs.

We enjoyed the first half of our dining experience — the location is great, of course.
However, when I was almost finished with my crab cake, I noticed a human hair in it. I was offered 15% off that dish only (not the entire bill), which came to about $5 off for the experience of finding a hair in my food.
To make matters worse, their credit card machine was down, so the staff manually recorded my credit card information and had me sign a slip for the total bill amount. No tip was included on the copy I signed.
When I later checked my credit card statement, I saw that a 15% tip had been added without my authorization. This is not acceptable. I would have been willing to leave a tip if it had been communicated properly, but it should never be assumed or added by restaurant staff without the cardholder’s permission.
