Great bbq. Had the brisket and pulled pork, with Mac n cheese and collard greens. Liked everything. Portions are large.

Yall- – just do yourself a favor and get the chicken sandwich. Best we’ve ever had. Our sides were also great. Service was good, atmosphere was quaint and southern without feeling overly old fashioned. We also had the fried green tomato blt and the deviled eggs— all great! Definitely taste their signature bbq sauce on the table, too!

Driving back to MD had to give NC BBQ a second try (and hopefully not get sick this time). Heard great things about this place across the internet, so decided to stop by. It’s definitely a bit out of the way, but I can tell you it’s 100% worth it.
Beautiful outdoor and picnic area when you park, and you walk in to this old school type of bar/restaurant. Tons of nostalgic items displayed across the walls and behind the bar, as well as a huge black board with specials and drinks which makes ordering easy.
I grabbed a local Rice Lager by Funguys Brewing, that sadly was oxidized. Not the bar’s fault though, but was really disappointed about that. Went classic and got a BBQ sandwich and fries, which came with coleslaw and hush puppies. Now the fries and hush puppies were perfectly cooked. Crispy with a good crunch, but then soft in the middle.
When it comes to the sandwich — I guess I just don’t get NC BBQ. Medium sized sandwich on a potato roll with a bunch of dry, mildly seasoned meat. I dumped 1/8th of a bottle of Pig Whistle BBQ Sauce (only thing available) and it really didn’t add much except for the taste of vinegar. Threw the coleslaw on there too, and still just didn’t blend right. Now overall, everything tasted good, it’s just not my cup of tea.
The service was absolutely amazing and the rest of the menu looks phenomenal so I’ll definitely be giving it a second try when I’m back down next week!

I should’ve known this business was going to be extremely unprofessional when I saw the owner Chris Holloway hop out of his truck with tags that expired years ago. Food is Sub par and overpriced, usually lacking flavour. In the reviews as you can see the brisket is probably one of the saltiest things on the menu, it is mostly salty fat for $20. Employees come off as nice (whoever management presented did not) you are waiting over 5-10 minutes for someone to greet you when the restaurant does not present itself to be busy at the time nor big in size. Unprofessional with orders and all around not worth the time or money. Better off going to other BBQ spots in the area.

Went there for the BBQ ribs, but it was sold out. I was told that happens often I need to come earlier. I ordered fried green tomatoes, a cheese burger and salad instead. The burger looked like your average burger, but it wasn’t,it was delicious. My meal came with Hush Puppies . These were the first hush puppies I’ve ever liked , it was very good . I will definitely order the salad and Fried Green Tomatoes again.

We had the special of Cheese Burgers and was not disappointed. Lance, the Bartender, took great care of us. Burgers were done to perfection. Baked beans were full of flavor, and the fries had a perfect crisp to them. Hush puppies to die for.

My husband and I love coming here for their brisket. So tender and juicy with a nice smoky flavor. Their baked beans had a unique flavor, not your typical sweet sauce baked beans. I had their brussel sprouts for the first time and they were very tasty. Just a bit undercooked but the flavor was delicious. Love their cole slaw and mac and cheese. The staff is always friendly and when not busy, the bar tender came around to everyone and asked if we were satisfied or if we needed anything. Picnic isn’t a large place, but it’s quaint and always clean. It’s always worth the 50 minute drive for us to come and get some of the best brisket at a very reasonable price. Everything is homemade including the desserts.

Looking for southern style food, mainly veggies and stumbled across PICNIC! I cannot think of anything I would change! Food was seasoned very well. Can’t beat the quality of food ordering 2 minutes before close! Staff were very welcoming and accommodating ! The dining area was very clean and music set the tone for a relaxed experience. I ordered buttermilk friend chicken ✅ collard greens ✅ Brussels sprouts ✅! I also tasted BBQ, potato salad and cole slaw ✅. I will definitely visit again and recommend others!

Picnic is so good! By the looks of the sign and outside decor it looks like a sit down restaurant with a server. To my surprise you ordered at the front and they brought it to you. I didn’t mind because we came in with a toddler. The lady who took our order was very friendly and helpful. Our food came out quick. It was so good. I got the NC whole hog BBQ sandwich, my daughter got the chicken sandwich, my boyfriend got the NC whole hog BBQ plate with okra, Mac and cheese and we got a side of baked beans for my son. We really enjoyed everything. The inside was really nice especially the lights on the ceiling and the big windows. I liked how clean the inside was and very modern.
