I’m quite picky when it comes to phở, so I don’t give compliments easily, but this place really delivered. The broth is beautifully balanced: naturally sweet, light, and clean, without being heavy or overpowering. The beef was fresh, tender, and full of flavour, exactly how a good bowl of phở should be.
We also tried the beef salad and it was excellent: fresh, well-seasoned, and a perfect complement to the soup. Everything felt thoughtfully prepared, not rushed or overly commercial.
This meal was such a comforting treat after a long skiing day, and it hit exactly the right note: warm, satisfying, and genuinely good Vietnamese food. We’ll definitely be back.
I’d recommend booking in advance, but even if you can’t, it’s absolutely worth the wait.

We have been at the restaurant a few times but finally have a chance to take photos and write a review after our last visit. We went there for lunch around 2 pm, the restaurant was still busy at 2 pm but we got very good service. I love their pandan tea! We ordered pho, spicy nood soup (bun bo Hue) and grilled pork with noodles (bun cha Ha Noi). All the dishes tasted delicious with lots of flavor but not overwhelming like other restaurants. The pho broth was flavorful; the bun bo Hue was a perfect balance of beef flavor and spices; the bun cha Ha Noi reminded me of my hometown. Overall all the dishes met my expectation and the presentation is a cherry on top. The owner Nick is very kind and friendly! We were very full after the meal but we still ordered their dessert which is sticky rice with mango and coconut milk to go and it was also very yummy. Also, can not have this review without mentioning their salted egg Cafe. One of the tastiest drink I’ve had. If you like the flavor of Vietnamese coffee and want to try the coffee with a twist, this drink is calling your name.
Thank you Phonetic Social for a wonderful meal on a cold rainy day! Everything was perfect and we will be back

OMG, what a FANTASTIC little restaurant! It’s quaint and clean, and the food is amazing. We had spring rolls, which were probably the best I’ve ever had, the Satay Chicken Pho, and the Beef Stew on noodles. The broths were both excellent and the entire dish as delicious. The beef was incredibly tasty and it was all spiced really well. Even the pandan tea was so good that we had to buy a package for home. Somehow, however, the food wasn’t even the best part. This is a small family run restaurant, and they treated us like family. The service was phenomenal!! We definitely want to go back and try more dishes.

Great little Vietnamese place.
I’d go back….even though there is room for improvement…
I’d go back because it was tasty and the service was spot-on.
Couple of things right off the bat.
Please don’t bring out the food one by one. Most people have a tendency to want to enjoy their meals together. So, bringing out one dish nearly 15 min before the other is….well…not great.
If you’re going to put a Shrimp Salad on the menu don’t cut the shrimp in half…makes you look cheap as an establishment.
Also it’s good to… you know….de-vein the shrimp (see pic.)
The Beef Pho was nice. It tasted hearty, homemade and authentic. Did lack salt and even with the seasonings on the table…that kick was missing slightly.
The Mini Pate Baguette was a bit of a let down. I was expecting more Pate….there was barely any there. Almost none (see pic.)
The Baguette itself was very nicely done…crispy.
The service was beautiful.
Friendly. Attentive. Consistent. Professional.
I Love Asian food.
This place quenches that crave.
With a few things corrected this place could be the Rockstar of that neighbourhood.

Visited Phonatic Social Restaurant for the first time on Dec. 3, 2025 and we were very impressed. Rave review for the green mango salad! It was meal sized and absolutely loaded with mango. Bonus that it also comes with a few pieces of prawn. The lemongrass chicken banh mi was just okay, crunchie, but quite flavorless, bread and light on the chicken. Wouldn’t order again. My son said the beef pho was excellent, with very tender beef.
If there’s such a thing as a signature dessert, the mango sticky rice with vanilla ice cream is it! It consists of sticky rice steamed in pandan giving the rice a green colour. The rice was served piping hot and was accompanied by half a fresh mango, a scoop of vanilla ice cream drizzled with chocolate sauce and a pot of creamy coconut sauce to pour over the works. Out of this world!
Phonatic is definitely our new go to place for Vietnamese.

My boyfriend and I went here for the first time . I ordered the lemon grass chicken pho soup and spring rolls. It was the best pho I’ve ever had. My boyfriend was so pleased with his food as well. Great variety, and great quality for your money. Not to mention the chicken is so fresh , and the spring rolls were so wonderful. They are also the best spring rolls I’ve ever had. On top of the best pho ever, the service was fantastic. Very friendly, and great atmosphere. If you haven’t tried this place yet, I 100% recommend it.

It’s the best Vietnamese spot on the North Shore. The spring rolls were perfectly crispy and full of flavor (not greasy at all). The grilled pork noodles were super tasty, the broth was on the sweeter side but still so good! The turmeric fish vermicelli was soft and fresh, and their homemade sauces were absolutely flavourful. The house sauce (red chilli garlic) is addictive. Seriously, get it on the side and dip everything in it.
We finished with their homemade mango dessert, which was creamy, light, and the perfect way to end the meal.
A hidden gem on Lonsdale, definitely worth the hype, deserves all the high ratings!

Literally the cutest spot for pho, alongside amazing soup and noodle. Me and my sister are from way up north so this was a very special occasion. In all my years, this pho has to be in my #1 spot. They even got us some oyster sauce when requested. Overall I highly recommend this place. It’s a gorgeous little restaurant, and will warm your heart!

SO GOOD! I cannot wait to come back again. I had the lemongrass chicken noodle soup (pho ga nuong) and it was amazing. I usually get rare beef noodle soups when I’m at Vietnamese restaurants but this is my new go to pho! The broth and chicken had so much flavour, I absolutely loved it. The staff were so friendly! They really care about the food they serve and they do an amazing job. Excited to go back to try the appetizer sharing platter.

The stand-out at this friendly, cozy family-run restaurant is: Pork & Prawn Spring Rolls – quite possibly the best Vietnamese spring rolls that have ever graced my lips. The Crispy Fried Squid was outstanding, as well. In fact all 4 appetizers my family ordered, were met with enthusiasm. Nick, our server is a personable young man. He’s a soccer enthusiast, we learned. His uncle is the chef at this place. Of course, we had to order some pho broth bowls. There was a collective agreement, that their broth is lacking flavor – a bit on the bland side. But I’m sure a bit more seasoning, can easily remedy this. Perhaps they were having an off day? This is a nice place to visit, for a cozy dining experience.
