Had a lovely dinner at Phoenicia Wednesday evening (reservations highly recommended). Their reputation for an exquisite dining experience is evident in that everything is fresh and made from scratch.

Our waiter, James, was exceptional, and helped us decide which appetizers would go well with our Bronzino main dish, which we decided to split and which was made to perfection. We opted for chicken and hummus, which my companion loved, even though she generally isn’t a fan of hummus. We also had the Arayes (Pita with Kafta / Tahini / Sumac Onions), Sujuk (Spicy Armenian Sausage in Tomato Sauce) and Fattoush salad. Lastly, we finished with the flakiest Baklava (not drenched in honey) and a creamy Chocolate Torte with Raspberry sauce – all delectable!

This upscale Lebanese restaurant has a wonderful muted, yet elegant atmosphere with stellar service and excellent food. Looking forward to visiting again.

WAS EXPECTING AUTHENTIC LEBANESE FOOD given the name and ownership of the restaurant and instead the rude waiter, Nate L, suggested the ribs since the chef is either from Texas or is really “in to” Texas barbecue – he said the ribs are really popular and the best thing on the menu. How disappointing!

Ordered the Lebanese salad, the Mixed Grill, in which my shish kabob was literally one cube of beef smaller than a mini-meatball (which could have been perceived as punishment since I changed the temp on the beef from medium to medium plus), the chicken shawarma which was not only bland but the rice was an up-charge and came swimming in water, and several cocktails (much needed due to the treatment and the taste of the food). Do NOT recommend, food was dissatisfying and inedible.

Also, I have never been sat so closely to other diners that I could hear their thoughts. This was suppose to be a kick start to us celebrating our wedding anniversary for a month-long, and could not have been a more regrettable start. Must really reiterate that the waiter was RUDE, DISMISSIVE, and acted as if he was doing us a favor by servicing us (his job), and we still tipped him generously as is our custom. Would not recommend this restaurant.

Phoenicia in Birmingham offers an elevated take on Middle Eastern cuisine. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the service was great. The flavors are rich and authentic, with a menu that stays true to tradition while adding a modern touch. A wonderful dining experience all around.

The service was friendly, but that’s the only good thing I can say. My main dish was burnt and completely lacked flavor. For $44, I expected something much better — this definitely wasn’t worth the price.

The presentation was sloppy, and the food felt like a rushed afterthought. Disappointing overall. I won’t be coming back, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone looking for real Middle Eastern food

From the moment we walked in, The Phoenician served up an elegant yet welcoming atmosphere perfect for a memorable lunch with friends. The service was warm and attentive, and every dish we tried was thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented.

We started with drinks that were just as vibrant and refreshing as they looked—perfectly crafted and garnished with care. The chicken over hummus was an absolute standout—tender, flavorful chicken layered on a silky hummus base, accented with pomegranate and pine nuts. We also tried the salmon entrée, which came topped with a colorful medley of sautéed greens and roasted vegetables—it was juicy, rich, and perfectly seasoned. The grilled fish platter was delicate and fresh, paired nicely with crispy pita and a lemony dip. And don’t sleep on the side of broccolini—simple, bright, and satisfying.

The vibe? Elegant yet comfortable, ideal for a celebratory lunch or just catching up over great food. We left full, happy, and already planning a return visit. The Phoenician is a gem in Birmingham—highly recommend!

Phoenicia has been my parents’ go-to spot forever—even back when it was at the original location. We absolutely love the Birmingham location for its convenient parking, prime spot on Old Woodward, and of course, the food… oh, the food! Every dish is packed with flavor, and the spices truly elevate the entire experience. The drinks are always perfectly crafted, and the service makes you feel like a million bucks. We’ve never had a bad experience. Keep doing what you’re doing—we love y’all!

My husband and I love this place. Delicious upscale Middle Eastern food with great use of spices. Prices are a bit high for portions but to be expected in the area. We have been a few times and have enjoyed every dish we’ve tried so far. Brunch is amazing!

After wanting to try Phoenicia for quite some time, my husband & daughter took me there for dinner on Mother’s Day. While the food was tasty, it was not all that different from many other Middle Eastern restaurants we’ve dined with in the past. The only thing that really stood out were the prices. Maybe it’s location in Birmingham allows Phoenicia to charge twice as much as the average restaurant for the same quality of food. Our bill for three people (without drinks) was $185. If we are splurging for a nice dinner out, I want it to feel as though we’ve had something special. While the restaurant is lovely, it is rather small and crowded. We were seated very close to a large party on one side and a table of four, loud children on another. I’m not sure why a nice restaurant allowed four kids (three of which were very young) to sit at a table without adult supervision, but it definitely affected our experience. One very positive thing about our experience was the Hummus & Hashwi. This dish was new to us and stood out from the otherwise tasty, but ordinary dinner.

I came in for a special celebration and requested a booth on my reservation. When we arrived, the hostess tried seating us at a tiny two-top. I was like, nah son, not for my special day! So I asked to be seated somewhere else. She seemed annoyed and rolled her eyes, which was not the warm welcome I expected. Eventually, she gave us a half booth, but the attitude was definitely felt.

Thankfully, things completely turned around once we were in Emdad’s hands. He was the exact opposite; polite, friendly, and genuinely welcoming. His service made the night feel special again.

The food was phenomenal, the muhadra and mjadara with Lebanese salad were absolute standouts, and the Enlightenment mocktail was excellent. Between the incredible food and Emdad’s top-tier hospitality, the night ended on a high note.

I’d come back for the food and Emdad’s service any day, hopefully next time the front door energy matches what’s coming out of the kitchen.
