For the price, the meal was quite solid. My only complaint was that the rice was a bit dry, which made me think it wasn’t freshly made. The meat however tasted good, but the noodles on the side were also a little dry.

On the bright side the portion size was massive! We went for the XL noodles, and it was definitely big enough to serve 2-3 people. The atmosphere was clean and had a moderate level of noise, and the staff was attentive. Just a heads-up—the restaurant is on the second floor, so you will need to take the stairs to reach it.

I’ve been a long-time customer of over 20 years, and this restaurant has definitely changed within the last couple of years. We are never coming back, nor do we recommend this place to anyone. The level of customer service was horrible. The staff are rude and speaking of hygiene, it’s close to none. We lost our appetite because we found a long white hair embedded into our springroll. We addressed it to the staff, and instead of sincerely apologizing and making the situation right for the customer, they lie and make all kinds of excuses such as it was taro or beans sprout. Quite ridiculous, and they said no one here has white hair. They don’t take any ownership of these types of situation. The food quality was very poor. The chicken pho was not authetic. It’s water down, salty, and the meat was extremely dry. At this rate, i can’t see how this establishment will stay in operation. Lastly, the cashier tried to scam us by overcharging our credit card $340!

Decent Vietnamese food at a reasonable price with quick service. The dishes came out fast, tasted fresh, and the portions were satisfying for the cost. The restaurant was clean, but it’s worth noting that there are quite a few stairs to reach the dining area — something to keep in mind for anyone with mobility concerns. One small downside was the strong scent of the floor cleaner (Jax); it was a bit overpowering. I’d recommend switching to an unscented product to make the dining experience more pleasant. Otherwise, it’s a solid spot for a quick and tasty Vietnamese meal!

Pho Xe Lua on Spadina is one of my top favourite restaurants in Toronto! I’ve been going here for over 30 years and their food is so damn delicious!!! I always feel I get a balance diet with my meals. And the dishes are so colourful.

It just went through a renovation in summer of 2024 but ambience is still wonderful and spacious. We love getting a window booth and never too busy at lunch.

I usually order same dishes and this time got two appetizers to share with my pal:

-Spring Rolls (2 rolls)
(Pork, taro, dry mushroom and mixed vegetables)
-Shrimp Rolls (2 rolls)

I got:
Rice with Caramelized Jumbo Prawn, BBQ Chicken and Steamed Egg/Fried Egg

My friend got:
Vermicelli with Spring Roll and BBQ Chicken

I love this place and service is also super fast!
Highly recommend!!!!

This place is up a flight of stairs and conveniently located in Chinatown just off Spadina. The dining room has lots of seating. I think this place is fine if you’re hungry and fine with okay food at a reasonable price point.

Staff are not the most attentive and often forgot things throughout our visit, like cutlery, and even components of the dishes we ordered.

Had the grilled chicken with rice and that was fine but the chicken itself was pretty tough. They also are pretty messy with plating because the plate itself looks greasy with them handling it in the kitchen before it gets to us.

A lovely spot to enjoy pho with a view!

Pho Xe Lua is a great place to grab a comforting bowl of pho right in the heart of Chinatown. The location is a real gem!! from upstairs, you get a beautiful view overlooking the bustling streets below, which really adds to the experience.

The pho itself has an acceptable quality — the broth is warm and satisfying, and the portion sizes are generous. It’s not the most extraordinary pho I’ve ever had, but it definitely hits the spot, especially if you’re out exploring the area and want something tasty and filling.

Friendly service, good prices, and a location that lets you soak in the Chinatown vibe from above!!

definitely worth a visit!

Pho Xe Lua Vietnamese holds a special place in our family’s dining routine whenever we find ourselves downtown. Having known the owners for years, we have come to rely on this restaurant for consistently delicious Vietnamese cuisine. The ambiance is clean and inviting, contributing to a comfortable dining experience.

The standout dish here is definitely the beef pho. Every bowl is a testament to freshness—the noodles are consistently tender and the broth is refreshingly light, never too salty. It’s evident that care and attention go into each bowl served.

The service is another highlight. The staff are friendly and efficient, making sure that we feel welcome and our needs are promptly attended to. Whether it’s a quick lunch stop or a relaxed dinner, the service adds to the overall positive experience of dining here.

While we have always had great experiences, it’s fair to note that occasional variations in food quality or service can occur, as with any restaurant. However, these instances are rare and do not detract from the overall enjoyment we have had at Pho Xe Lua Vietnamese.

In conclusion, if you’re looking for authentic Vietnamese cuisine in downtown, Pho Xe Lua Vietnamese is a reliable choice. The combination of delicious food, attentive service, and pleasant ambiance makes it a go-to spot for us whenever we crave a taste of Vietnam in the heart of the city.

Found this place on Google Maps and it didn’t disappoint. Had the vermicelli Phô with beef brisket, rare beef and tripe which was delicious. Had the XL bowl as was hungry and it was only $17 so pretty good deal. It was a fairly large bowl. Saw most people getting the Large size. Beef was great, with fatty parts and the soup broth tasting amazing. The server was friendly and engaging and overall great experience. Recommended.

Good Vietnamese joint on Spadina. Entrance is a bit hidden. Atmosphere is good, service is good. Food came out fast. Will come back to try other options.
