Although I wanted to go to this restaurant this Wednesday which was the day of Laotian independence day, I am happy I was able to have this done within the very week of Laos having its national holiday. My first taste of Laotian cuisine was a delight: I had the Larb which is a special salad of Laotian culture. I loved the the way the chicken was prepared with the cabbage, cilantro and scallion mix, and the sticky rice. Lastly, the mango sticky rice which I had before from Thai restaurants was magnificently appealing.

I ordered the pork chop through UberEats, and I honestly couldn’t believe how bad it was. The flavor was unpleasant from the first bite, the texture made it even worse, and finishing it felt impossible. This wasn’t just below average — it was truly inedible for me. I haven’t tried their other dishes, so maybe those are better, but this pork chop was an unforgettable disappointment — and not in a good way.

If you are looking for a true hole in the wall experience, then you should visit. Pho Thai Laos. The owners are offering a cuisine that is a mix of Thai and Laotian . Everything is made from scratch. The owners have been there for 20 years. While the decor is outdated the food is outstanding. Last night we started with Edamame and Vegetable Dumplings. The dumplings were steamed, moist and delicious with their variations of soy sauce. As you can see by the menu board they had a number of specials. We had the shrimp avocado curry and the salmon green curry. The rice was cooked to perfection. The restaurant is located by the old Maywood train station which makes the area very quaint. Parking is ample along the side of the building or the back. If you are looking for a variation of Thai food at a restaurant off the beaten track then I highly recommend this restaurant.

I have only ordered through GrubHub.
From what I have ordered, the taste is on point. The execution needs work. That being said I would go to this place over all others because the taste profile is correct.
Keep up the phenomenal tastes! Thank you

Pho Thai Lao Kitchen in Maywood, New Jersey, is a cozy and inviting restaurant known for its authentic Southeast Asian cuisine, blending Thai and Lao flavors. The menu offers a variety of dishes, including their popular pho, pad thai, and Lao specialties like larb and papaya salad. The restaurant receives praise for its flavorful dishes, generous portions, and friendly service. The casual and relaxed atmosphere makes it a great spot for both dine-in and takeout. However, some patrons mention that the wait times can be a bit long during peak hours, but the quality of the food makes it worth the wait and we went there sunday daytime, they didn’t take longer time to give us food. Overall, Pho Thai Lao Kitchen is a great choice for those seeking a genuine taste of Thai and Lao cuisine in New Jersey.

Do yourself a favor. Do NOT order “crab fried rice” from this place! I had my order delivered via DoorDash. What a waste it was, and Pho Thai Lao should really be ashamed because there was more egg and vegetables than there was crabmeat! I could not see/taste the crabmeat although the picture on DoorDash reflects a lot of crabmeat which is misleading! This was very disappointing! Also, this was my first time ordering from this place. I am very hesitant to order anything else in the near future, unless someone recommends another item from the menu. WARNING: The owner does not like to answer to complaints. So she has her employee screen calls instead and has the employee give you a message to get a refund from DoorDash and that crabmeat is expensive. SMH. Thanks to DoorDash, I will be receiving a refund.

Smaller restaurant with interesting Lao dishes. Crepe and red snapper were highlights for me. Was not a fan of the pork chop in garlic sauce. 20% tip auto applied with our party of 6. 3.5% credit card usage fee.

We wanted to try a new place but unfortunately this was not the best option. We ordered pad se ew noodles with chicken and shrimp and overall it was not great. Noodles were soggy and gummy and honestly flavorless. Perhaps other food items are better. Thai iced tea and spring rolls were good though. And the sum total of what we ordered was pricy, 50 dollars! Hopefully things in the future will be better!
