Note: I was so hungry and the chicken pho looked delicious, I overlooked taking photos…lol. Take 2 in the future.
I arrived at the restaurant during lunch hour and found the restaurant to be clean with a relaxing ambiance. The menu was limited, but this isn’t a bad thing. Too many restaurants have an extensive menu, but master none. The service was good as the waiter/waitress were friendly and prompt; asking for extra basil or citrus was politely acknowledged and provided. Staff greet you upon arrival and departure.
I thought the pho itself was delicious. After my first experience with their chicken pho, I decided to return to try their beef pho. You have a choice of the fresh wider noodles or the regular pho noodles- I tend to opt for the regular noodles. The soup was aromatic with all of the usual seasoning/spices and tasted delicious; not salty as other I have experienced. The noodles matched the soup, not overly cooked. My only complaint is, similar to other restaurants, when you order the pho tai (rare beef), it doesn’t arrive to your table “rare” as it is sitting in the soup being cooked as you add your condiments and herbs into the bowl. Will try to see if I can have the beef on the side the next time.
Going back to the relaxing ambiance, during my past visits, there is spa-like music playing over the speakers while a large screen projector takes you through the wonders of the world. Nice touch. I understand there is karaoke offerings…thank goodness not during lunch!
Overall, I recommend others to come in for a visit. One of a few and rare pho restaurants I would recommend.
On top of the food, the hospitality was wonderful. The owner and staff were so nice and attentive throughout the meal. It’s a great feeling to support a business where the people are just as great as the food. I’ll definitely be coming back.
The phở gà has a clean, comforting broth that’s light but flavorful, with a natural sweetness that doesn’t feel artificial or overly salty. You can tell care went into the broth. The chicken was tender on both visits and served in generous portions, and the noodles had a great texture. With a squeeze of lime and fresh herbs, the bowl really comes together.
Service was quick and smooth despite them being new, and the restaurant felt clean and welcoming. I like that it’s straightforward and focused on doing the basics well. If you’re looking for a new place in San Jose for a solid bowl of chicken pho, Pho No. 2 is definitely worth checking out.
