Reviews
My friends who live right across the street highly recommended this place. We stopped in for lunch, and I liked the no-frills, classic Viet diner vibes. The menu had all the usual comforts like spring rolls, pho, and rice plates.
We went for a specialty beef pho and a grilled pork rice combo plate, and both arrived in under 10 minutes. Tasted exactly the way I want them to. Nothing flashy, just hearty, satisfying Vietnamese comfort food done right.
I ordered #8 (steak, flank, and tripe). Goodness, the broth is money worth. I know there are many different levels of tenderness and softness people prefer to have their pho cooked, and this was definitely a bit on the harder side (though, if you want a more tender feel just put your meat towards the bottom and let heat do the work).
Also the pricing is excellent, I got a small size and felt pretty full after that, though someone I was eating with got the large and there’s just a one dollar difference but the large is large size indeed.
If you wander into that plaza, I betcha you won’t regret walking in to here to eat.
Ordered their beef noodles soup. Guess it should be a safe bet since they cannot go wrong on this commonly available dish.
Taste was good. Soup is fragrant and hot.
I typically don’t add more bean sprouts or mint leaves but some like to add these.
3 bowls of beef noodles soup cost US$47.31 after taxes but before tips.
Service was very basic. Got seated. Given the menu. Place order. Served the food. Start eating. After for bill. Pay and be on our way.
They also wanted cash since that ended up being less than their minimum for using a card, which was a bit awkward.
I want to give them a higher rating, but many other pho places at least offer a vegetable broth (without milk/dairy) of some form, so given that they had no real options for a meal I can’t really justify giving a higher review – it’s not a place to go for strict vegetarians. If you’re going with a non-vegetarian group then the spring rolls work as something to chew on while talking.
If they started offering a vegetable broth for the pho and perhaps say a tofu option for the pho and rice plates (neither involves difficult to get or cook ingredients), I could see bumping it up to at least a 4 star review. For that matter, a very similar tofu based option could also be offered for a vegetarian vermicelli, and a vegetarian bahn mi.
The real above and beyond 5 star move would be if they offered the vegetarian broth/tofu, along with a vegan meat substitute like Beyond Chicken or Beyond Beef that could be paired with the pho or rice plates.
Also got the pork vermicelli bowl with egg rolls and that was delicious too.
