My family told me that their Teo Chew ho fun was great, so it had been on my want-to-list for a while. I finally got to check it out. We were seated quickly, but something felt off when I saw the menu; it said SPICY SZECHUAN & PHO on the menu. I started feeling a bit skeptical. So I looked up some recent reviews and found out they had changed ownership and started serving a lot of Chinese dishes now.

We ordered their beef chow fun and Teo Chew noodle soup. The beef chow fun portion was huge, very fragrant, and delicious. I wish they could fry it for big longer, so the noodles could have a better texture.

The Teo Chew noodle soup was great too. It had a strong garlic flavor, which was a bit different from other places I’ve tried. Teo Chew noodles, I had from others, they usually put the fried garlic on the side, so you can add it yourself. Tasted still really good and came with lots of shrimps and shreddedpork and chicken.

Don’t be confused by the name, this place has the best, authentic Chinese food in Berkeley.

The dry pot spicy bullfrog is tender and perfectly seasoned. The fish fillet with mustard is authentically spiced with great portions. The Sichuan peppercorn fish is fragrant but not too spicy. The eggplant with green beans is fresh and tasty. Mapo tofu is soft and appropriately spiced.

This place is a hidden gem and the food here is really solid and well priced! My girlfriend and I stopped in for dinner on a weeknight after hearing some good things about the food and were really impressed with the quality and flavor of everything we ordered. The house special dumplings, house beef stew noodle soup, and the beef pho were all delicious and incredibly flavorful. I especially loved my house beef stew– the broth was so rich and delicious (probably some of the best I’ve had in a long time). We will definitely be back again soon, hopefully to try out their lunch specials we saw on the menu! Give this place a try if you want somewhere with a large menu and good food at a fair price!

We ordered salt and pepper chicken wings for $25/plate and they gave us fried pieces of chicken nuggets which are probably the same as the orange chicken . We couldn’t complain because it was a take out order. Overall, we spent $135 and we didn’t like any of the 7 dishes. The dumpling skins were thick and had a funky sauce. The walnut prawns were salty. The broccoli and beef was decent but not great. We have routinely ordered takeout in the past and loved the food. But it appears there may be a new owner as the menus are a bit different. Overall, the food isn’t the same as it was in the past and the quality of the food has declined dramatically. I also question their integrity when they serve chicken nuggets as chicken wings for $25. See the attached photo.

Pho Le has very good authentic Chinese recipes. Their noodles especially are very reminiscent of hand-pulled noodles even though they do not claim to make hand-pulled noodles. Their vegetable components are properly cooked; green beans are still al dente, and eggplant is traditionally stir-fried soft. While the menu is not inflated with multiple offerings with minimal variants a few rarely seen recipes are offered such as the beef tripe appetizer. While the menu does not mention the option, the stir- fried noodles may be ordered with cha siu. The menu is well executed. My spring rolls on this occasion were crunchy through several layers without soggy fillings suggesting they were not frozen. The broccoli in the beef with broccoli was minimally par-cooked, unlike many restaurants, so the final stir-frying made for a product which was a very pleasing rendition. The large serving sizes made for ample leftovers. The dining room was surprisingly pleasant, and the server made good efforts to be accommodating and responsive to questions. I’m looking forward to trying the dumplings and the pho soups. I have complete confidence in the Chinese side of the menu based on several visits.

I was really happy with Pho Le. The curb appeal didn’t give me high expectations, and the service was a little slow on a Wednesday, but the pho was excellent! And the inside was decently nice as well.

Really enjoyed the smooth and tasty broth and perfectly textured rice noodles. Our table had the thin rare steak and well done brisket, chicken, and beef stew pho soups. All excellent!

Wanted to try something besides noodles and the chicken and Napa cabbage dumplings were a great compliment to the meal. They could use a little salt though.

We came here for dinner and had a good experience. We ordered a Thai iced tea, special combo beef noodle soup, spicy beef noodle soup, and dry stir fried beef chow fun. Everything was delicious, and the service was quick and attentive. The prices are reasonable and the portions are large. Overall a good experience!

Szechuan restaurant in disguise! Good pho selection, but we were so excited to see a good selection of Szechuan food. They even made tofu with explosive pepper for us, off menu. Very sweet of them to accommodate us. Skip the fried spring rolls though – mediocre at best.

Two of us split an order of the Dandan noodles and 8-piece soup dumplings and left full and satisfied for just $24. My taste buds are dancing! So yummy.
