After work I was looking for a place to have dinner in Richmond. Felt like eating something hot with soup. Someone suggested a few places and I picked this restaurant.

It is a small Vietnamese restaurant, sitting low profile in the neighbourhood of Capstan. There are plenty parking lots outside.

I ordered the fish cake noodle soup which is chef recommended. It took a while to cook. The fish cakes were unlike those in other Vietnamese restaurant, they are soft. The soup tasted soothing and without too much flavours. It is good as an everyday noodle soup. The owner is very nice and welcoming. I will be back again.

I used to frequent their bogo from uber eats. Food is average but was great value. Since the past year, prices were raised and portions cut down. I live nearby so I always picked up, but it would take them 30 mins to fuflfill an order of 2x grilled chicken rice. For $27 bogo, I’d rather pay an extra few bucks for bigger and tastier option at another restaurant.

I give this place 5 stars for the broth of Pho I had. Very unique and aromatic though it’s not a place that you make a trip for it. I just had it as it’s in a walking distance from my hotel and very satisfied with the taste.

Tiny family run restaurant that isn’t bad. No were close to being the best in Richmond, but it’s priced right and you get good portions. The restaurant only have 3 tables inside, plus the “bar” by the window, but the is a couple of tables outside. My Grilled Pork Vermicelli was pretty good, but the Fish Cake Soup didn’t have much taste to it. The spring roll was kind of gross. I think the oil temperature was too high, because the skin was dark, but the inside wasn’t fully cooked and had a mushy texture. I ordered online and found the menu was limited. Also, I put the order in at 4pm for a 4:55 pickup. I got there at 5:05, and still waited 10 mins for the order. If you like quantity over quality, then this may be the place for you.

Not sure of the experience dining in, but Pho Han has always delivered great tasting food at a good price when ordered through Uber Eats. Food is tasty, still hot when it arrives, and portions are huge. Their buy one get one is pretty good value. Highly recommend getting their lemongrass rice plates and house special pho!

Pho is good, the soup broth for sure is self made with meat and bones.
But the place is more for take out rather than dine in.. We also order the spring rolls and came after we finished eating our Pho, that is a minus point.

Small place with 4 tables and window bar seats. They seem to do a lot of take-out business. The interior needs updating as the seats are uncomfortable metal chairs and the cleanliness and decor are in need of improvement. That being said, the food was good. Don’t order the combos because the drink is not worth getting.

– a tiny restaurant with literally just a handful of tables. There was only one person working the whole time we were there. He was the chef, waiter, cashier, busboy, and probably the dishwasher as well, all rolled in one

– its Bun Bo Hue was the spiciest BBH I’ve ever eaten and the beef really melted in my mouth. However, its beef had no meat flavor.

– Wife’s not too happy with her P1 Pho. She said her soup was too mild, the tendons were chewy, and the beef was tasteless.

– because it’s a tiny restaurant, I was expecting its prices to be cheaper. Guess not, its prices were anything but tiny. $16.99 for a Bun Bo Hue and $14.50 for a Small Beef Pho. Sounds pretty standard but:

>> it’s BBH is actually 11% more expensive than Thai Son, just 10 minutes walk from here. Or 24% more on a Tuesday (10% off every Tuesday at Thai Son). Thai Son’s Beef Pho cost $13.25 for a Small and $14.25 for a Large or $11.93 and $12.82 respectively on 10% off Tuesdays.

>> Pho 37, just 5 minutes walk from here, its BBH is $17.50 or $15.75 on Mondays (10% off every Monday)

So, there’s really not much incentive eating here, at least not the price. Taste-wise, not a whole lot either.

PS. It’s closed every Monday. In fact, all restaurants within this plaza, with the exception of the Chinese cafe, are closed every Monday.

PSS. At least it takes credit cards

This is my third time trying this restaurant. It’s still OK but I find the quality has changed drastically within the few months I visited. Today’s broth was not hot at all. I asked for extra hot soup but still not enough to cook the beef even after I finished my bowl. The service is still good but I think I’ll have to try elsewhere next time.

Really good bun bo hue!! The beef was soft and the broth was red and tasty. Other places have diluted taste. I liked the extra red onion and quality of meat is higher than other places. Ask for some jalapenos to increase the spice 😉

A solid 4 out of 5! Pho is tasty with hands down the best brisket that any pho place has to offer. The cut is thick and super tender, unlike most places with dry brisket. Portions are large and offer great value. Only off a 5 star for me was the soup as it was a bit mild compared to other places, maybe a few more bones and a couple of extra hours on the stove would do the trick. No msg though which is good. Ordering is super easy with the QR code and did arrive fast. Place is a bit small but good for a quick in and out.
