Overall Ben Thanh is quite good. Both service and quality of food has been consistent and flavorful. Although prices have increased, the portions are huge, one dish can easily serve 2-3 people.

We arrived and were told to “sit here,” so we did. We filled out our order. After waiting 20 minutes, no one came to collect the paper, ask if we needed anything, or even acknowledge us.
Meanwhile, another table arrived after us, sat next to us, and was immediately served water and attended to. My partner and I were still sitting there without any service at all. No waiter, no explanation—nothing.
Completely unacceptable. A total waste of 20 minutes watching other customers get served first while we were ignored. Definitely a terrible experience.

We called ahead to book a reservation for 4 people and were told we wouldn’t need one for a small group. Upon arriving we were quickly seated.
We ordered some shrimp rolls to start and placed our dinner order. The portions were large and the food was delicious.
The curry noodle dish I ordered was really good.
The service was prompt and friendly.
The restaurant is part of a plaza and there’s parking available out front.

Generous portions with great prices. I have been to this particular location for years and it has become one of my favourite restaurants. I have come to appreciate their fried rice, you get a good chunks of protein with it, unlike some places that will shred one or 2 pieces of meat and call it BFR or CFR.

Absolutely wonderful experience for a first visit with a friend who’d never tried Thai food before! Helpful recommendations for them from the server, they provided a fork for them too! Both of our choices were delicious and of course lots came home! Busy place with lots of chatting but none of it interrupted our little bubble! We weren’t rushed to order, not rushed to finish and not rushed to pay and leave! Fabulous night out!

Worst customer service I have ever experienced.
I ordered pineapple fried rice and received a completely different rice dish. Because Uber does not offer refunds for this restaurant, I contacted the restaurant directly to correct their mistake.
The person who answered the phone was rude from the beginning, but became shockingly dismissive and hostile once she realized I could not come into the store that day because I am sick (which is the reason I used Uber Eats in the first place). Even after I offered to come in on another day when I was no longer sick, her tone completely changed and I was told, “Welp, there’s nothing we’re gonna do about it.”
What makes this unacceptable is that we both had access to my original order, which clearly says pineapple fried rice, yet they still insisted that the incorrect dish I received was what I ordered. No apology. No replacement. No refund. No attempt at a solution—despite me offering multiple reasonable options.
This restaurant takes zero accountability, dismisses customers outright, and refuses to fix clear errors unless it’s on their exact terms. Mistakes happen, but the way this was handled was incredibly unprofessional and disrespectful.
Save your money. If something goes wrong, they will not help you. I will never order from here again.

Place has become so overpriced it’s more expensive than the steakhouses of KW. Beef ribs – you get about 6/7 flat pieces of beef (maybe 5 ounces of beef if you’re lucky) so chewy you’d think it was moose meat and they charge $24.00 for it. One of the top steakhouses in town you can get a 16oz ribeye for $50. Got a plate of shrimp and broccoli with about 8/9 pcs of shrimp and a few pcs of green and they wanted $22.00 for that. Used to be a decent restaurant at one point, but has definitely become a complete waste of money!

Ben Thanh has been consistently outstanding for the almost 10 years I’ve lived in Waterloo. The service is quick, my favourite pho dish is always delicious and served perfectly, the drinks and appetizers – always 10/10. I love Ben Thanh and hope they never change

I order usually one of two things, beef rib pho or rice noodle chicken teriyaki with butter fried chicken wings. Now for the first time ordering takeout the food was atrocious. As someone who worked multiple years in the kitchen industry the noodles where bland and the chicken wings where overstated. There was little to no sauce on the noodles and I was very disappointed. Will probably not return to the restaurant after this experience and I’m very disappointed in the food discrepancy when eating in vs takeout.

The food wasn’t terrible but the service was genuinely horrifying. First time visiting here as I normally go to pho dau Bo and the people there usually know what I want. But this restaurant was closer to my house. When ordering the lady at the desk was incredibly dismissive and rushed and very very rude. Barely gave me time to look at the menu before she started barking at me to order. I placed my order and to be fair the food got out very quickly. When I was leaving I saw written on the receipt that the meat was given to me raw. I thought it must be a mistake and when I went inside to rectify it, I was met with some of the most horrifying customer service, she very rudely said that I had to specify if I wanted the meat cooked or not. I’ve never had to do that at any of the other pho places I’ve gone to and this was my first time here. When I asked if she could just cook the beef she ripped the bag out of my hands and threw it at one of the workers to cook. I have never felt more uncomfortable and have never experienced such horrendous customer service in my life. The only good thing I have to say is that when I had initially come back in this white guy came up to me and was actually listening and worried and wanted to help me. But he was also interrupted by the lady. Overall food was meh, but it was overshadowed by the terrible customer service. I will not be returning and would much rather drive the extra 20 minutes to the pho restaurants that care about customers.
