We visited Phil’s Tara Hideaway after a day of walking along the St. Croix River in Stillwater. It has a charming vibe and pretty healthy food. We had some bread and butter and a Greek salad. For entrees we both had Walleye (one pan seared and one hazelnut crusted). We had good service and a good experience.

We had a delightful dining experience with excellent service from our waiter, Jackson. He was kind and attentive, providing great food suggestions. My wife enjoyed the butter garlic tiger shrimp, while I had the Tara Burger, which was truly exceptional with its rich layers of flavors and a perfect balance of spice and savoriness. The atmosphere was rustic and cozy, with tasteful decorations that added to the charm without being overwhelming. Parking was convenient, with no issues finding or leaving. Overall, it was a wonderful experience.

Phil’s is always a hit! We have never had anything in the menu that was not well prepared and delicious. You just cannot go wrong. Gyros, Prime Rib, walleye, Duck, all delicious! Cocktails are generous pours. This is not luxury dining, just good food, friendly/attentive service, and a great time. Be ready to wait on a weekend evening… but it is worth it, just plan ahead!

I really like the food here! It is very unique for the area and the portions are large. Cheese curds were still slightly squeaky and the veggies were fresh! The chicken was moist and not dry at all.

My husband and I went for dinner and we had an awesome experience. He ordered a seasonal beer and I got a glass of wine to go with my entree. We got the brussel sprouts for appetizer and the cured bacon was wonderful. He ordered the Tara steak with mushrooms and smashed potatoes which were delicious. I got the duck breast entree and it was so good! We also shared the baklava for dessert which was warm and super nutty. The service was awesome and we left happy. It was a nice treat for us since we had a gift certificate and we don’t get out much. We had a great time.

I have always heard great raves about this place, especially the steaks. Even though i’m not so much of a steak person, I decided to try it. Low and behold, they’ve got more than just steaks! There is a nice assortment on their menu. I finally decided to go with the gyro dinner. It was a massive portion of gyro meat; however most of the meat appeared to have been cooking too long, meaning it was on the cooker for a while. The meat was a tad darker and slightly harder than what I’ve had before. The Tzatziki sauce was nice and firm, not runny. I forget olives were a thing. I’m not big on olives and could have gone without them but if you’re an olive person, it was plentiful. The pita bread was delicious and warm!
They also give you some other cold pita-like bread and butter with your meal. The butter was somewhat whipped consistency and tasted so good and I’m not a butter person. I must say, I’ve never had artichoke risotto (comes with the meal) and it was fire!
I got the loaded brussel sprouts. I had to try them. It was flavorful. Could have been all the seasoning and ingredient, but there were spots where it was a tad too salty for my liking.
The staff were friendly. Given I’ve never been here before, I’m not sure if they’re always busy or it was busy this night, because I didn’t get water refill until I already drank all my water and crunching on some ice. I was sat in a crowded corner when there were tables available. I can understand that was a smaller table, but it just felt crowded.
I would go back to try the other items. I’m just giving a fair review.

This place is a must try if you haven’t! The ambiance, the cocktails and the FOOD!!! The wait staff and owners are incredibly helpful, social and just fun to be around. I look forward to every trip. The pics attached are of the Greek Style Shrimp, Athenian Potatoes and the must have Greek Dinner salad.

French fries were average, pan-fried walleye was good, but not great.
The real concern was how noisy it was in there. Almost impossible to have a real conversation with anyone not sitting directly next to me.

The food options were very unique and a pleasant change from the typical bar/ restaurant in the Midwest area. The drinks were well balanced, and the food had so much flavor. I will be back!
