Pizza was incredible, cheese was perfectly melted, perfect ratio of cheese to crust, and cooked perfectly. Only complaint was that many reviews mentioned a rude woman working behind the counter. However when I ordered my food, I was disappointed to find that the woman in question was actually very nice. I’m not one who enjoys restaurants with intentionally rude service, but this did still disappoint me. The pizza is really good though…

First time having Phil’s and I’ll give it five stars purely for the pizza, because that’s what matters at the end of the day. Service is straightforward, no pleasantries (I like that) and the restaurant itself is your typical Chicago sit-down pizza spot. Great pizza, very much lives up to the hype.

Very good Chicago style thin crust – a true Chicago pizza, seen via the “historic Italia” map box/paper. If I lived on the south side this would be a go to for me.

This place is fine, but not as good as I was hoping. We ordered a pepperoni pizza and an onion mushroom pepper pizza for our vegetarian friend. They put the pepperonis under the cheese, which is disappointing. I much prefer them on top where they get crispy. Also, they added sausage to the veggie pizza. Not just, like, a piece of sausage snuck on, but there was a full order of sausage. I checked our receipt and it correctly said only the veggies, so there must have been a mix up on their end. Normally I wouldn’t complain about free sausage, but the pizza was for our vegetarian friend and so they weren’t able to eat it at all. Also, I live too far away and it was too late for me to want to go all the way back just to get a replacement pizza.
So yeah, it’s a fine place, but I probably won’t be back.

Went in to order two pizzas and was hoping I could eat them there. The moment I walked in I realized that wasn’t such a good idea. The establishment was freezing, even the girl who was working the front and checking people out had a jacket on. Nonetheless, the pizza was absolutely delicious!
Ordered two large pizzas: one “special pizza” & one with sausage, garlic & jalapeños. Definitely can’t wait to go back & order takeout!

I am a tavern pizza enthusiast and I look for a place with pizza that has a thin crust with a good sauce, good tasting sausage and good crust! I love extra extra extra crispy, if it’s a little burnt I’m all for it.
I’ve had Phil’s before, a couple of years ago and I thought it was just okay. Perhaps because I had a go-to that was my favorite at the time, but it’s no longer my favorite on the south side. It got bought by a new owner and the quality is but back to Phil’s. I saw that they’ve been getting a lot of love on social media. So I decided to give them another go. Gotta support the south side spots as a southsider.
I ordered the medium Special that consists of sausage, mushroom, onion and green pepper. Yup you guessed it I ordered it extra extra extra crispy. I spent $21 and some change. I picked it up.
Let’s start with the crust. For tavern style it is pretty thick, it’s not a bad thing though because I do like variety but I do prefer thin. I attached some pictures and you’ll see that the thickness is about 3 saltines thick. It was extra crispy (I would’ve loved it one more level of crisp lol) and very tasty! I enjoyed it very much. The sauce was flavorful and the sausage tasted fresh and well seasoned. The onion was sliced wide and thin and I loved that! I also love that they stack their ingredients well on the pizza. They don’t hold back and I think that’s great. Was the pizza near perfect for a neighborhood joint? Yea it was.
Do I recommend Phil’s? Yes I do! Don’t expect a thin cracker crust though, it is thicker than your normal tavern style. Next time I’ll order it “almost burnt” hahahaha
Phil’s if you read this… please offer a thinner crust

Phil’s Pizza never disappoints! The food is always fresh, hot, and full of flavor. Their crust is perfectly crispy with just the right amount of chew, and the sauce tastes homemade. You can tell they care about quality and consistency. The staff is friendly and the service is quick even when they’re busy. Definitely one of my favorite pizza spots in the area!

I waited in line for an hour and thirty minutes just to place my order, only to wait another hour and 30 minutes to get home, only to discover that the entire pizza was burnt. The expediter was perhaps the most unpleasant person I have ever encountered. When I called back to inform them about the burnt pizza, they repeatedly hung up on me. I will never eat at this restaurant again, which is disappointing since it used to be one of my favorite pizza places in Chicago.
Please be cautious about where you spend your hard-earned money. Choosing establishments that value their customers and provide quality service can make a significant difference in your experience.
