Founded by a husband and wife team, Philly 77 is our own way of bringing an authentic Philly cheesesteak experience to the people of Texas. For far too long, we’ve searched far and wide in our home of the Rio Grande Valley to find a cheesesteak that would satisfy our cravings so far away from Philly.
Today, we’re proud to offer the people of McAllen an exciting restaurant with a menu that speaks to their true love of east coast cuisine. With tasty cheesesteak sandwiches, the thickest milkshakes that money can buy, cheese fries in a cup, and an exciting outdoor dining experience that speaks to the heart of our vibrant downtown, Philly 77 is here to serve you – our customers.

Don’t live in this city so I didn’t know it existed, my wife and kids know it from visiting during band competitions. We stopped by after a doctor’s appointment. Now I have to come back! This place alone is worth the trip, I ordered the BBq Philly, and OMG it was gooood! Super soft bread, super tender steak and sausage, and the bbq was perfectly flavored not bland not spicy. The Seasoned fries are legit, perfectly seasoned and crispy, super pleased with my meal. I also made the best choice ever of ordering a strawberry cheesecake smoothie….gawd lawd…10/10 experience.
The joint is old school and I would say it’s perfect for a hangout with friends. Gave me a “the bear” joint vibe, which is a good thing.

Very nice small restaurant on a busy corner. Modern industrial designed dining area. Very clean with plenty of sitting. We were greeted promptly and the menu was explained when we ask questions. My husband ordered the original Philly and fries and I ordered the chicken Philly. We haven’t had a New York Philly, so we have only our experience at places like Penn Station Subs, which I believe is a North East restaurant, as we are from Ohio. The original Philly was good, however in our opinion it needed more seasoning to the meat, and more of it. The bun to meat ratio wasn’t great. My chicken Philly was dry and again not much seasoning on the meat. I also felt the bun to meat ratio was low. The fries were very good with plenty of seasoning. The meal came out quickly and was hot, as my husband burnt the roof of his mouth because he was so anxious to taste it, lol. His fault, not the restaurants. We would definitely comeback again. They have a very nice menu with tons of options, including salads.

Lunch was interesting today as I stopped at Philly 77 for a South Texas version of a Philly cheesesteak combined with some freshly cut fries. This was a cool little stop on the road today. The atmosphere is very inviting and Adrian the staff member who helped me was very informative and helpful. I didn’t want to go overboard on my order. But they have some amazing pictures of french fries and ice cream combined.. based on my experience today I would definitely be back. Philly 77 thank you for a good experience.

Does anyone know if Philly 77 has new owners? We went this weekend and we ordered our usual items but the turkey sandwich my husband usually orders came with chopped up turkey pieces that didn’t even equal a slice. We asked if they had made changes because the turkey has never looked that way, but the staff said it was always like that . Hmmm. I usually order the traditional Philly but the meat was gamey and chewy. My daughter ordered a cheeseburger but we had to pay for pickles. I’ve never heard of this. I’m sad because we really liked it there but now I don’t think we will be going back.

I typically prefer they bring menus to the table instead of having u order there in line (makes me feel rushed) but the service was great and I enjoyed my Philly cheese steak and the sweet potato fries were delicious . The desserts are amazing! We had the strawberry cheesecake shake & key lime cheesecake shake to go and I didn’t realize we’d get the glass mason jars to keep! I’ll definitely be back to try more!

I have eaten here twice and it was consistently good. I ordered the Original Philly which comes with fries. The drink is additional.
The sandwich is served with onions, peppers, mushrooms and cheese on a toasted but soft 8” roll. The bread is perfect. The beef was tender and juicy. The onions and peppers were the right amount for the serving of meat. Great balance. I am fairly certain they cut their fries as these too were excellent. Everything came out really hot and fresh.
Their tea wasn’t good. My guess is they use tap water which in RGV sucks. The same goes for the fountain drinks for probably the same reason. They offer bottled drinks and I will do that next time. I guess I forgot from the first visit how bad the drink were.
Their menu offers more than the Philly and I plan to explore it more as time goes on.
The dining room is dated but clean. Outdoor tables are also available. They to are dated.
If you want something a little different than what chains offer, try this!

If you have a craving for a Philly cheese steak, Philly 77 is the spot.
I have wanted to give this place a try for awhile. I have driven by for years.
I am not sure what the parking situation looks like at peak times. Luckily, it wasn’t too busy when I dropped by about an hour before closing and had no trouble finding a spot.
When you walk in, the place feels inviting. Orders are placed at the counter. The team member was warm and friendly. She talked me through the options. There were many that looked appealing but I settled on the Chipotle Philly with sweet potato fries.
As I took my seat, I noticed a separate dining area that could be used for small groups. They were a variety of seating options in the main dining area.
I didn’t have to wait long after finding a table. A server politely bought out my sandwich with a friendly smile. The sandwich was hot and clearly freshly made. It was presented well. It tasted as good as it looked. It was a Philly done right.
The fries were also fresh out of the frier. They were cooked just right and a good serving size. I was both surprised that they came unsalted and that there wasn’t a salt shaker at the table. However, I was able to get one from the counter.
Overall, I had a good dining experience. I am sure I will visit again soon.

Went with my girlfriend. Tried the veggie pizza. I have made frozen Tony’s pizza better than the pizza God just punished us with rn. We also got the fries in a cup. Turns out they use Velveeta cheese. Fries taste just like Wingstop’s without the food seasoning. now my girlfriend is leaving me

Today was my first time visiting here. I’m rarely over in Mcallen. I really enjoyed the food. The workers were nice and patient as we looked over the menu. The wait wasn’t very long. There’s ample amount of seating. And again, the food was great. If you get the fries in the cup, the bottom seemed to be drenched in cheese. Not that that’s bad, but can be a bit much haha.

Took my family for my mom’s birthday and we ordered the original philly steaks and buffalo chicken as well. We got the Oreo and the brownie shakes. The ambience was a twist of modern but warm and welcoming. The cashier who took our order was helpful as well. Definitely worth a try. And do not estimate the shakes. I ordered 4 and we were a party of 9 (5 adults, 2 teens 2 kids) and we could not finish the massive desserts!
