Lunch was nice, I had lasagna with rice and vegetables. As I have come to expect with chow halls, it was lightly seasoned. Salt and pepper left the flavor a little wanting. The salad bar is tremendous! Many options there to make a complete meal. As one might write in a log book; “I found the meal of adequate quality and sufficient quantity.”

Last time I ate there was May 2008. Loved the made to order omelets. Hell of a lot better than MRE’s and sand.

Mid food, has made multiple marines I know sick. Sometimes rotten or moldy. The few good employees are outshined by the bad ones who don’t wanna be there. Somehow the other chow halls less than a mile away can get it right but I cannot believe they feed marines the way they do….makes me feel less than human. I avoid going so much that it makes me poor. Smells bad sometimes like rotting food. Portion sizes are bad for healthy food but you can get as many burgers, pizza, and fries as you want. Eat at your own risk.

Not bad but really inconvenient hours especially on weekends and holidays, they were closed on a Monday because John McCain died but all marines on base still had to work. Very shoddy on their part and my guys didn’t get to eat chow all day.

All three chow halls on base are beyond unserviceable. This just happens to be the worse chow hall I’ve ever seen in my career. Anybody giving any of the 29 Palm chow halls higher than 1 star, is clearly a Civilian or Officer. It’s also sad to see that the employees barely give us the food we pay for, but then cook for themselves and eat our food that is not coming out of our paycheck. I always see the Managers and employees eating the food that they didn’t pay for. The food is always over cooked

The chicken that is cook is either very dry to where u need 1-3 cups of water to even eat it or down it in as much sauce as possible . The chicken has also came out raw several times. staff can also be extremely rude and disrespectful, the marines already deal with enough stress the last thing they need is the staff giving them a hard time or attitude at the door

Pretty darn good chow hall, does breakfast beat with a to go line that offers burritos with the entire breakfast rolled up in there, bacon, eggs, cheese, tomatoes, and hashbrowns. There is usually a 3 to 4 minute line especially on weekdays in the morning and lunchtime. Evening chow, not so much. The weekends and holidays are usually pretty dead when everyone dips out from base.

Understaffed, or just staffed incorrectly. The food is the worst quality by far of the four chow hall aboard the MCAGCC (yes, Camp Wilson is better). Phelps chow hall is constantly congested. The only time customers can get their food in an orderly manner is the first 10 minutes it is open, and the last 10 minutes before they close. For such a high-traffic cafeteria, you would think the management staff would assign more line workers to serve food during the rush hours. However, it is common to see the lines backed up 20-30 Marines with 2 worker manning the line. This, coupled with the fact that they were recently closed down due to health code violations leads me to believe that Phelps chow hall management has a general atmosphere of apathy toward their inadequacies.

Uh. It will fill your belly, but that’s about it. Not great chow and not great people working there. It’s pretty clear those people aren’t happy and they just want you out of their face.

Went there for the “Navy’s” Birthday” meal celebration. They ran out if utensils be 1115. Trying to eat steak and lobster with flimsy plastic forks and knives was a challenge. Ither than that.. they did GREAT!
