Reviews
The samosa was definitely a hit and our favourite dish. The atmosphere and vibe was perfect and we had an amazing time. The elephant drink was also very good.
The appetizers were genuinely strong, with thoughtful seasoning, good layering of flavors, and a high level of execution.
The lamb liver, in particular, stood out it had no gaminess at all, was very cleanly prepared, and had a smooth, refined texture. It was one of those dishes that really stays in your memory.
The small plates and drinks were also excellent, distinctive and well-balanced, and carried a fine-dining level of polish.
In comparison, the main courses were noticeably more ordinary.
The salted vegetable stew was fine, but at this price point it felt underwhelming and lacked the excitement found in the appetizers.
The steak is not something I would recommend both the flavor and execution didn’t quite justify the price, and it felt somewhat disconnected from the Indo-French concept the restaurant is aiming for.
That said, the service deserves special mention.
This was one of the most attentive and capable servers we’ve encountered in a long time incredibly warm, observant, and thoughtful. Every dish was explained in detail, with clear and honest recommendations based on our preferences, which truly elevated the dining experience.
We likely ordered a bit too many starch-heavy dishes this time, which may have overshadowed some of the subtler flavors. On a future visit, we would be more interested in exploring other sections of the menu, especially the appetizers and different flavor combinations.
Overall, this is an Indo-French restaurant where the appetizers, drinks, and service clearly outshine the main courses. If ordered thoughtfully, it can still be a very enjoyable experience.
Standouts were fig cheese samosa, tandoori broccoli, Cornish hen (yum and creative) , and the peppercorn steak. And the garlic naan was so garlicky I am a fan. All these dishes were complex and tasted great!!!
Don’t bother with the spinach cheese naan starter it’s bland and tiny, and the chai crème brûlée tasted good but the custard was melted/ runny underneath the sugar.
Cocktails were also good! Overall great service and most items we tried were delicious. Thank you to my boyfie for the recommendation
Oysters served chilled, with a delicious sauce
and plump mussels also plated very attractively, without shell .
Garlic naan thin & crispy, full of garlic flavor.
Cornish game hen was cooked perfectly – tender
Duck kulcha served hot and delicious with pineapple raita
Rabbit Biryani moist & served very attractively !
Creme brulee very attractive & delicious.
Decor: transported one to a cozy French bistro,
away from the cold, rainy weather of Vancr…
The bar looked extremely well stocked & very inviting!!
We visited Peya for the first time to celebrate my husband’s birthday and WOW, what an incredible experience!
The food and drinks were outstanding, and the desserts were absolutely to die for. The service was warm and attentive, and the ambiance made it feel like such a special night.
It’s French-Indian fusion, and a couple of our friends were hesitant about the concept at first, but every dish completely blew us away. The flavors were thoughtful, creative, and so well-balanced.
As someone who grew up with Indian cuisine, I was truly impressed by how authentically those flavors were honored and elevated.
Having been raised in East Vancouver, it’s amazing to see such high-caliber dining in the neighborhood.
And with all the incredible restaurants I’ve tried over the years including countless menu tastings through my work – Peya absolutely holds its own and exceeded our expectations.
Highly, highly recommend! ✨ ️
We got the mussels and the elk tartare to start, and both were great.
Then we got the Cornish hen, the rabbit biriyani, a few orders of naan, and the dhal.
They were all fantastic, the biriyani was so full of flavor ( I love rabbit, even though it can be hard to find in Vancouver restaurants) but the dhal was incredible. It was so garlic-y and fresh tasting. Honestly, just the dhal and some naan would be a great thing to snack on.
And the drinks are all delicious, the Mumbai Mule is a favorite of my girlfriend and I.
Highly recommend
I visited pretty close to opening day so I’m giving some grace but the atmosphere was just a bit of a miss for me!
I felt like it was too bright and the music kept skipping and fully stopped for a couple minutes at one point. It was awkward!
I’ve heard that they’ve since fixed the vibes and I’m excited to go back!! My friend was a bit spooked by the rabbit dish so I didn’t get to try – this is still on my list!
Vibe: Peya has a mid-century luxe vibe, their attention to detail is evident, from the whimsical plating to the flow in the place with lighting, the furniture and including the creative branding.
The drinks: Peya has one of the most creative drink menus which incorporates elements from Indian Cuisine with thought such as saffron, mango, and spices. And it’s not just the thought but the successful implementation blew my mind. We got the saffron sazerac – this drink needs a standing ovation as it is a feverish dream which morphs with every few sips.
Curry Gibson, held is ground with the masala onions instead of olives. A bold fun drink.
The food: The broccoli small plate was coated with a spice and served with black garlic. The sweetness from the black garlic and the spiciness made this a winning dish. The rabbit kebab was tender with a flavorful chutney.
My husband was happy with his steak. However, I wasn’t too pleased with the Ratatouille, the reason for the 4 stars. The dish had limited sauce, which was good and the veggies craved spice or flavor. The side dish which was a coconut and mustard rice was delicious.
Service: Chris, who was with us the whole evening made the experience all the more special with his thoughtful recommendations his attention to detail and his kindness.
I love when restaurants experiment and create layered experiences. Peya is one of the very few in Vancouver that truly harmonizes with your senses and takes you on a journey. I’m going to try a few more things on the menu and especially a couple more drinks.
