While they say they are the “Best brunch in town”, I would hate to try their lesser competition. But, first, the positives. It is a great location and building. A lot of character. A great view of the river and its dam. Weather permitting, you can dine outdoors. While the reception staff weren’t the friendliest, the wait and buffet staff were.

Now the negatives. The food was dry, old, and flavorless. The only thing that was decent … not good but only decent … was the ham dipped in a honey glaze. As for the rest of the all-you-can-eat brunch buffet….

Bacons was burnt and all clumped together. Sausage was so dry, you could use it to start a fire with. Waffles were premade, stacked in an unheated warmer, and tough to cut and eat. The “prime rib” was more beef roast. The smoked salmon did taste smoky but was cold, which would have been fine if placed on the salad bar table but not on the hot meat table thus expecting it to be at least warm. The mashed potatoes and brown gravy didn’t have any flavor. The string beans only had a hint of flavor. The cinnamon rolls with icing tasted store bought, not fresh. No margarine offered. Only whipped butter. No honey offered for cornbread.

Great food generates great tips. Bland food does the opposite. The restaurant management should have the wait staff sample ALL dishes before brunch opens AND after it closes. Both times and every time, ask wait staff if they agree or disagree with the first two sentences of this paragraph. Then ask for their honest opinions of the food served. Their reviews will be brutally honest BUT it will bring about much needed change.

Sunday brunch is amazing. There are so many great food options. Eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes, pasta, prime rib, waffles (with many toppings to chose from), a large selection of veggies, fruit, pastries cakes and other deserts. Reservations are recommended because it can get quite busy. I have gone so many times and have never been disappointed.

My husband and I visited for our Anniversary. We made our reservation a couple weeks in advance and had a beautiful view from our table. He ordered the special and I the Seafood Alfredo with a side of broccoli covered in hollandaise sauce! We shared a hard cider beer and really enjoyed our dinner. The Alfredo was cooked to perfection and the seafood divine. The broccoli in hollandaise sauce was SO good! I could have eaten two or three servings of ut alone! Our plate decorations were so pretty and kind. We decided to splurge for dessert and split the strawberry cheesecake. Even it was decorated! From the wait staff to the food, we had a wonderful experience and can’t wait to come back with our kids to share the experience with them next time!

So sad the building is changing tenants!! Go while you still can!!

Sunday brunch was so good. Everything I had was divine. Biscuits & gravy, free mimosas, waffles with berries, chocolate dipped strawberries… The cheesecake tasted like it came out of a box but that’s my one and only complaint. Staff were nice and attentive. (Thanks, Andy!) Buffet lines move quickly. Wondrrful!

This restaurant provides a very unique setting! The industrial and historic interior is beautiful. My husband and I came here for our anniversary and had the works, appetizers, drinks, and entrees. The artichoke dip is a must, I got a steak and my husband got the stuffed shrimp, and the wine/beer list has a lot to offer. We will definitely be back!

Grew up in Iowa City and this was always a staple. Went for a dinner with my kid when we were in town. I haven’t eaten here in years, but it wasn’t the allure it was back then. The view still fun and food is solid, just not spectacular. Our service though, was amazing. She went above and beyond because I couldn’t eat dairy, and she made up a meal for my kiddo as well. She was excellent! I wish I had her name to give her compliments (we visited 5pm on Jun 29th). I ordered duck because it’s one of my favorite things, but it wasn’t actually good. I should have ordered a steak, when in Iowa. Next time!

Had dinner here on a Saturday evening with my wife. The front staff was friendly as we showed up early to enjoy some cocktails, but they had seating available and took us to our table right away. We ordered the spinach and artichoke dip that comes inside a bread bowl and that was very good. Highly recommend that. I had the prime rib dinner special and my wife had a sirloin. I thought the meats could have used more flavor but the sides were top notch and I also got a side order of the shrimp wrapped in bacon that was excellent. Not my favorite steak restaurant, but very nice and the setting and vibe are lovely. Dinner for two with 2 drinks and app ran us around 100-120 after tip. One last thing to note is it took us around 90 minutes so definitely don’t go there if you are looking for a quick bite.

10 stars, outstanding in every way. Perfect service, food quality, and ambience. Celiac-friendly, even gave me gluten free garlic toast.
The only tricky part was the entrance isn’t what you would expect, myself and 1 other couple were wandering around but it IS right in the front.

Stayed overnight in Iowa City while on our way to a wedding. We were also trying to celebrate our 26th wedding anniversary at the same time, so we looked for a unique, local experience. The view from our table was excellent and the service was very good. We ordered Chicken Parmesan and Filet of Beef. It came with salads and bread. Salads were very tasty and the bread was excellent. In fact the bread was the best part. The CP portion was very large and it came out hot & ready to go with extra sauce as I had ordered. But the flavour was subpar at best. My wife has made better CP at home and for $22, the value wasn’t there. My wife got the Filet of Beef and it too was subpar food for $32. Potatoes were overcooked and tasted old. The meat was cooked to how she asked but it tasted more like liver and was dry. Overall we were extremely disappointed and probably won’t be back. Tried to be as transparent and honest as possible with this review, hoping changes can be made.

We’ve been going to Iowa River Power Restaurant for many years. The Sunday buffet has a wide range of foods. The building has a unique vintage design inside and out. Seating with a view of the river is available.
