Service was great and sitting out on the parking lot patio was much nicer than expected.
Now the food.
Boston Lettuce Salad: this was a pile of Bibb lettuce with a standard vinaigrette. No more. No less. And it was $17.
The Big Mec: I’d never had the Big Mec and I needed to check it off my list. If this is the type of burger you enjoy, awesome. It wasn’t bad, but for me it was just too much of too much. The bordelaise overtook everything. The few times I was able to get a bite with mostly burger, the meat was very good. Worth the $38? Maybe. (It did come with fries, so…)
Fried Chicken: A special they’re running thru Dec. Half chicken cooked sous vide and then lightly breaded and fried. Served with fries. I think this was half a game hen, not a chicken. The little bit of breast meat was dry, the thigh was fine, but both weren’t seasoned well. Don’t know how this was sous vide. If you want good chicken, go to Crawford’s and get the basket of chicken for $16. I think this was $42 – at least we got more fries.
Leeks Fondant: Did you know “fondant” means “melting” in French? Well, we could barely cut these with our steak knives they were so hard. And they still had the tough dried up outer skin on them. The sauce Vin Jaune had no depth – it just tasted boozy. We had to send them back. $23 and not taken off our bill. But they looked nice.
Too many restaurants struggling in this city that don’t have the same name recognition. Support them.
They’re located in the east side of Highland just north of Melrose. Small parking lot, paid valet only but if you’re lucky you can get street parking. Bar seating inside but they have patio seating as well.
Dishes which stood out to me were the endives and big mec burger. Their fries are amazing!! They have some good wine offerings and their cocktails were also delicious.
It was quite packed when we were there but the ambiance remained casual and relatively quiet. The restaurant is in a bit of a weird location and is divided into 3 areas: 2 indoor dining rooms and an outdoor area. It was still too cold to sit outside when we came so we opted for indoors.
Parking at their lot is valet only but there is some street parking available.
The soup was divine. The burger, the Big Mec, was heaven bite after bite after bite. It’s a small yet very cozy place, just like a beautiful cafe/bistro in France, and we appreciated the superb service from start to the very finish. And how they appreciated our flying in thousands of miles to (finally) try Chef Ludo’s masterpieces.
Definitely a highlight of our trip. Merci beaucoup, Petit Trois! More power!
Exceptional food, great quality, amazing flavors, rich, bold, and filling! May be pricey but you get big portions.
Always gotta get the big Mec. One of the best burgers in LA. The omelette is always perfect. the Croque Madame is one of the few you can find made right in LA. The steak frites are also a must!
