Petit Thai is a minimalist, family-run restaurant owned by a mom and her daughter, and it truly stands out. The food tastes incredibly authentic, just like the dishes I’ve had in Thailand. The staff are a solid 10/10, super kind and attentive. Make sure to book a table!

Highly recommend the Keng Kiew Whan! I asked for the least spicy option possible and it was absolutely perfect. Definitely one of the best Thai spots in Ghent ✨

Intensely crowded as we were placed in the middle of the room even though we made a reservation plenty in advance. We were promised to be moved within 25 minutes to a larger table, but it didn’t happen. People from the delivery and service constantly passed us and it was very inconvenient. The portions of the appetizers of lumpia were small. Calculated to +/-3 euro/lumpia. In general the prices are quite above average high. Afterwards the main dishes were okay, but the beef tartare couldn’t be finished. It was too salty, too one-tone spicy. Safe to say there is a bit of room for improvement regarding service, attention to detail and food.

Authentic Thai flavors in the heart of Ghent! The dishes are fresh, tasty, and full of real Thai spice and aroma. A must-visit for anyone craving genuine Thai food! Try their green curry! and reserve the table in advance!

What I ordered:
1. Beef pad kaprao with crispy fried egg (ข้าวกะเพราเนื้อไข่ดาว) — I asked for original and authentic spiciness ️ ️
2. Yum Nua (ยำเนื้อ(ย่าง))

How it tasted:
As a Thai, this food here almost tastes like how you can find in Thai restaurants back in Thailand. (FYI, I ordered authentic spiciness.)
Real food critics would say that Pad Kaprao should have only meat and Thai basil but I didn’t mind that. The taste is rich. However, I have to warn about the portion. I wouldn’t have finished all of them if it hadn’t tasted so good.

Yum-Nua (ยำเนื้อย่าง) is love. It is rich with all the flavors; sweet, spicy, salty and sour. And very refreshing. I think the chef is Thai because we usually like our beef that we can chew a bit. Those hidden tendons are missed. It’s probably a personal preference but I enjoy it. The portion could be the main dish instead of side salad.

Portions:
As I have said, I should have just ordered one dish but then I would be sorry if I didn’t get to eat Yum-Nua. I blamed myself for coming alone.

Price:
Each dishes are 10-20€. Of course, it’s a bit pricey compared to some restaurants or back home. But I think it worth it.

Reservation and seats:
It had only 1 small table left for my lucky self on 6:30 pm on Tuesday. So I recommend you make a reservation in advance. Not very spacious and the tables are quite small.

To the chef and staff, thank you for opening this restaurant ❤️

Kitchen serves really good Thai food, however the evening service needs improving: arrived to an empty restaurant before 6pm, but somehow we were refused the table of our liking (plenty available) – instead we were asked to sit in the middle section, which within half hour turn out to be a busy experience, with waiters & guests brushing past continuously. While we came with plenty of time, we had to wait way too long for our main course to be served, which only came through after 45mins after having reminded them repeatedly. Politely brushed off as a communication issue with the kitchen, it was quite apparent they simply forgot to signal the kitchen at all to prepare it. Meanwhile, other tables were served starter, asked if ready for mains & served mains.
Pity, because this took away from the experience of having otherwise tasty prepared Thai dishes. The service was always friendly, perhaps lacking a sense to read the room & take timely action.

Great, flavoursome food (kudos to the kitchen!) but a chaotic & unpleasant dining experience due to incompetent (though friendly) serving staff. We (party of 2) were the first people to walk in at 17.45 (with a reservation) but were immediately offered the worst table in the restaurant – the one right in front of the door. When we requested to be seated on one of the side tables against the wall which were also set for 2 people, we were told that wasn’t possible because they might need to adjust those tables.. but strangely enough a couple that came in right after us were seated there straightaway! After that things seemed to go downhill with a rather incompetent server who didn’t seem to know the items on the menu (couldn’t understand our order of Som Tam, papaya salad despite our repeating it many times), who forgot to pass on to the kitchen that we were to be served our main course for which we eventually had to wait 50 minutes after finishing our starter. He apologised for the delay.. we then asked for some water which he also promptly forgot about & which we only received after asking the other server!
Another problem is that the place may be ‘petit’ but they have crowded too many tables in such a small area. When seated on the tables in the centre, the serving staff & delivery service are constantly going back & forth with people brushing against your shoulder all the time .. its all very chaotic, disturbing & not a peaceful dining experience at all. At lunchtime, with just the Thai lady serving (very efficiently!), it was a much more smooth experience, so perhaps they need to reduce the number of staff they have at dinnertime.
Even though we loved the food, we don’t feel like going back to eat there. It’s true the servers apologised to us & are friendly people, it was just too stressful overall. A real pity, because the chefs are being let down by the service. There are quite a few reviews mentioning the crowded space & inadequate service, so it would be nice if the owners took this feedback to heart.

Delicious little place in Gent where you have the opportunity to taste real Thai food, brought by a Thai girl with her father in the kitchen who noticed the lack of “regular” Thai food on the Ghent Thai food scene.

Everything I’ve ordered here was absolutely delicious and delicate in taste.

Note to future self: the Tom Yum soup is super delicious, but as a main dish is only sufficient if eating all of the rice supplied.

Average Thai food same as another person’s review plus costly, rice served with curry was so cold. I ordered Yum woon sen which was served tasteless (maybe because I forgot to mention normal spicy for Asian) small restaurant with many seats when you eat food while your back touching strangers.

This is top food. I come here regularly for lunch to have the ka prao, duck salad, laab moo …
Top flavourful dishes, good serene service, just the seating might be a bit crowded at times. One of my favorite places in Gent!

Great little Thai place!
Tried the summer rolls and was really impressed — the sauce was different from anything I’ve had before, in a good way! Food overall was fresh and tasty. Staff were super friendly and made us feel welcome. Cozy vibe, definitely worth a visit!
