Highly recommend the Keng Kiew Whan! I asked for the least spicy option possible and it was absolutely perfect. Definitely one of the best Thai spots in Ghent ✨
1. Beef pad kaprao with crispy fried egg (ข้าวกะเพราเนื้อไข่ดาว) — I asked for original and authentic spiciness ️ ️
2. Yum Nua (ยำเนื้อ(ย่าง))
How it tasted:
As a Thai, this food here almost tastes like how you can find in Thai restaurants back in Thailand. (FYI, I ordered authentic spiciness.)
Real food critics would say that Pad Kaprao should have only meat and Thai basil but I didn’t mind that. The taste is rich. However, I have to warn about the portion. I wouldn’t have finished all of them if it hadn’t tasted so good.
Yum-Nua (ยำเนื้อย่าง) is love. It is rich with all the flavors; sweet, spicy, salty and sour. And very refreshing. I think the chef is Thai because we usually like our beef that we can chew a bit. Those hidden tendons are missed. It’s probably a personal preference but I enjoy it. The portion could be the main dish instead of side salad.
Portions:
As I have said, I should have just ordered one dish but then I would be sorry if I didn’t get to eat Yum-Nua. I blamed myself for coming alone.
Price:
Each dishes are 10-20€. Of course, it’s a bit pricey compared to some restaurants or back home. But I think it worth it.
Reservation and seats:
It had only 1 small table left for my lucky self on 6:30 pm on Tuesday. So I recommend you make a reservation in advance. Not very spacious and the tables are quite small.
To the chef and staff, thank you for opening this restaurant ❤️
Pity, because this took away from the experience of having otherwise tasty prepared Thai dishes. The service was always friendly, perhaps lacking a sense to read the room & take timely action.
Another problem is that the place may be ‘petit’ but they have crowded too many tables in such a small area. When seated on the tables in the centre, the serving staff & delivery service are constantly going back & forth with people brushing against your shoulder all the time .. its all very chaotic, disturbing & not a peaceful dining experience at all. At lunchtime, with just the Thai lady serving (very efficiently!), it was a much more smooth experience, so perhaps they need to reduce the number of staff they have at dinnertime.
Even though we loved the food, we don’t feel like going back to eat there. It’s true the servers apologised to us & are friendly people, it was just too stressful overall. A real pity, because the chefs are being let down by the service. There are quite a few reviews mentioning the crowded space & inadequate service, so it would be nice if the owners took this feedback to heart.
Everything I’ve ordered here was absolutely delicious and delicate in taste.
Note to future self: the Tom Yum soup is super delicious, but as a main dish is only sufficient if eating all of the rice supplied.
Top flavourful dishes, good serene service, just the seating might be a bit crowded at times. One of my favorite places in Gent!
Great little Thai place!
Tried the summer rolls and was really impressed — the sauce was different from anything I’ve had before, in a good way! Food overall was fresh and tasty. Staff were super friendly and made us feel welcome. Cozy vibe, definitely worth a visit!
