Peter Chang is hands down my favorite Chinese restaurant in the area. If you’re into Sichuan food, this place is on another level. I’ve loved everything I’ve tried here. The flavors are bold, the dishes are consistently well executed, and you can tell the kitchen knows exactly what it’s doing.

The service is great too. Everyone is friendly and things come out smoothly, so the whole experience feels easy and enjoyable. For the quality of food you get, the prices are also totally reasonable, which makes it even better.

Overall, it’s just a fantastic spot. If you want seriously good Sichuan food without overthinking anything, Peter Chang is the place I always recommend.

I’m on a mission to try as many Peter Chang restaurants as possible and this most recent trip brings me to their Arlington, VA location. I was in the area and decided to stop in for some carry-out to enjoy for lunch the next day.

The restaurant is very nice, clean, and modern. All Peter Chang joints are nicely decorated and kept up nicely, not like the typical “ethnic” restaurant with poor hygiene and care, this one was just as clean and nice as the others I’ve visited. Placing my to-go order was quick and easy with the host. He said it would take about 10 minutes for the food to be prepared, but it really took only 5 and it came out piping hot and packed for the trip home.

The food when I heated it up the next day was EXCELLENT!!! So flavorful and tasty! I actually ordered beef lo mien with jalapeños, which tasted great and wasn’t too spicy, but had a nice flavor to it… definitely something I’ll be ordering in the future! I also got their chicken with Szechuan peppers and that was incredibly flavorful!! Overall – Another excellent Peter Chang restaurant that must be visited!

Awesome Sichuan food! Been to this location twice and both times barely any tables were occupied. We did go close to closing time. They close at 10 pm.

Food is spicy with all the bold flavors you expect from Sichuan cuisine. Service is efficient and quick. They ask you if you want your appetizers first or if the food can come as it gets ready. They do get the food out real quick.

We like it did extra spicy do a go to dish is their ghost pepper chicken. They have thinly sliced peppers in it – they might be scotch bonnet though. Their eggplant appetizer is also excellent. In other places over tried them they’ve been very oily. But this place gets it right – hot, crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, and not at all oily. Their pork belly appetizer is also similarly fried – in other restaurants, they aren’t usually. The vegan bubble pancake is also a must have. The egg fried rice is so Indo-Chinese – it is perfect for those of you who get the reference.

The ambiance is very run-of-the-mill Chinese restauranty. This is when you compare this with the Herndon, or Bethesda locations – which are upscale and trendy in comparison. No reason to ding points for that – just setting expectations.

I like that you can scan the barcode on the bill to pay. It’s worked reliably.

Again, I don’t get why it isn’t crowded from the moment it opens till it shuts.

Just an ok place. The biggest concern is the food. It was just fine, not even good or great. The service was good. The atmosphere is good. It did not worth 100$ we paid for the dinner. Won’t comeback.

Stopped here for lunch not realizing they offer AYCE during these hours for only $32/person. A great way to try multiple dishes. Everything was exceptional! Was overwhelmed by it all and forgot to take pictures of each dish. Will definitely be back.

Been dining at this location since they opened in March 2015 and I wanted to leave my first review. This is the best Chinese restaurant, and one of the best restaurants in general, in the DMV.
Mr. Chang is from the Hubei province of China and became a master chef of Hubei cuisine, a different style of cuisine than Sichuan, but he learned Sichuan through his experience cooking alongside Sichuan chefs and doing his own research when he still lived in China. To me and many others who are from this area, Peter Chang is an icon and a living legend. Every restaurant he opens is of equal high quality, but I still prefer this location over all the others. If you’re deciding if you want to come try it don’t hesitate, just do.

Favorite items to order:

Grandma noodles
Scallion bubble pancake
Crispy pork belly
Bamboo fish
Fried eggplant

Mongolian beef
golden mountain chicken
Pork ribs
mapotofu
three pepper beef
sichuan chicken
I know it’s basic but the lo mein is the best here.

While it may not have the greatest atmosphere or particularly special service, Peter Chang always serves up quality dishes at a favorable price point; the restaurant is clean, and, while a bit plain, still lends to a nice environment to eat at.

The fried eggplant were crispy and delicious; the flavor of eggplant itself was very subtle, so even those who aren’t fans of eggplant can like the dish; 5/5.

The scallion pancakes were fantastic – and definitely not to be confused with Korean pajeon. They were massive, fluffy, thin and crispy breads, delicious enough to be devoured on their own, but especially so with the curry sauce served alongside it; 5/5.

The bamboo flounder had soft, melty flesh with a nice crispy exterior; 5/5.

We ordered a beef, shrimp, and shrimp/beef/chicken fried rice, which were all of equal quality – the only gripe was that they were all a little too salty; 4/5.

The crazy beef ghost chili was flavorful, but pretty terrifyingly spicy – definitely not for those with low tolerance to heat. Even for me, it was a bit much, but that should be expected considering the name; 3/5.

The vegetable spring rolls were plain; nothing outstanding, nothing terrible. 3/5.

The golden mountain chicken had a good balance of sweet and sour, but it’s too hard to eat a lot of it – just a personal preference thing; 3/5.

Overall, a great place to come out for lunch, especially for delicious Sichuan cuisine at fair price points and relatively fast service.

Nestled in a Virginia strip-mall the unassuming front hides some great Szechuan and Hunan style food. It’s certainly worth the visit. The numbing combination with glass noodles was also quite good, another 9/10 for that dish.

The Peiking duck was excellent a 9/10 and I loved the delicate pancakes!! The Dry fried eggplant was very, very good, also a 9/10.

The soup dumplings were good, not up to Joe Shanghai in New York City standards, but not bad. I would give them a 7/10 and the pork belly I would also give a 7/10. Both were good but other things on the menu are more with trying.

Overall you should certainly put it in your list of places to try.

Although it seems like quite a simple restaurant, we were pleasantly surprised by our experience here. There was no wait for a table, and we had good and attentive service. The food we ordered came in sizeable portions and everything was delicious, particularly the eggplant dish!

This place is amazing. It has an ugly outward appearance and ugly chairs but their food… makes up for their not so aesthetically pleasing location and furniture. All their food is sooo good!!! That deep fried bread is magical. That spicy beef appetizer is also out of this world. Fried Eggplant is unbelievable, the spices are so yummy. The Grandma’s noodles are sooo tasty too!! Great job guys we love you!!

As of today May 7th the renovated their place!! And their food is amazing!!
