Reviews
Nothing fancy but the service was fast and pleasant.
Good atmosphere, a little quiet balcony over Lion AV. a place to rest and eat.
No no no, people, what has this world come to with Fake reviews to get you to go to a restaurant.
We looked at the menu, it looked amazing . We looked at the reviews, all pretty good but couldn’t tell if they were real or fake, so decided to make the drive to Newhall.
We wanted real, authentic Persian food, saw the reviews for Persian Grill in Newhall, and drove all the way over there.
First of all, very hard to find, it’s behind an office building…And it is Not a restauarant. No tables, well maybe one for people waiting to pick up.
This is like a mini mart place where you are working in an office building, , go downstairs because you desperately want somewhere close to order chips and a sealed soda from, at best you might order what they call A Turkish coffee. But then the first thing you see when you walk in is a very old, very dirty old regular coffee maker that they haven’t used or cleaned in years.
However, no way you would never ever walk in to Persian Grill in Newhall to actually eat once you see the place.
It is a tiny tiny micro mini place that you can not call a grill nor a restaurant!
Here is my 100% honest real world actual experience today.
I walk in, and I am in shock because, there is nothing inside except a little table for a take out order cashier, and a very small grill. There are no tables for a family to sit down and eat, no waitress, no nothing.
Here’s where all your questions are clearly answered…there is a very dirty guy, STANDING ON TOP OF THE GRILL, EITHER FIXING OR CLEANING IT. Imagine walking in to a place you want to eat or order food, and you see a dirty guy with dirty shoes literally standing on top of the grill on a Sunday afternoon!
I AM IN AWE… i ask the girl, how do you cook your food, her immediate response without hesitation is…OH, WE NEVER USE THE GRILL, WE HAVE A MICROWAVE.
WHAAAAT?
Sad, so so very sad that in today’s social media, all the fake reviews, menus, and masquerading has come to this.
What an awful, disgusting experience.
My guess is that the only business that they have ever had is delivery orders where the customer who paid a lot of money(This place isn’t cheap) never sees the dirt and scum their food came from.
Lesson learned, and no, with my mouth still wide open, i walked out without ordering for the 14 people we were supposed to feed.
TL:DR This was a comfortable little restaurant with delicious Persian food. 8/10
This was my first time eating here. I’d had Persian food on a few different occasions, but I’m still pretty new to the cuisine.
The location is a bit strange or secluded, and might lead you to think of this restaurant as a “hole-in-the-wall”. The interior is very nice however. Very polished, if small. You can tell they put a lot of work into creating a comfortable space. More of a bistro or cafe than a typical “hole-in-the-wall”.
When I was seated, they brought over some very thin and mild bread (lavash, I think). I recommend eating this with your entre or ordering a dip, as it’s good on its own but was better as a compliment to what I had ordered.
I ordered the baghale polo with lamb shank. I really loved the melt in your mouth lamb, though the baghale polo was good too. I’d never had it before, so i didn’t really know what to expect. It’s basically a fava bean and dill pilaf served with the lamb shank that had been braised in a thin tomato sauce. The basmati rice was pretty fluffy; not the way I’d have expected, but it sounds like that’s the traditional way.
My meal plus a bottled beverage came out to around $28 after taxes. It was plenty of food for that price. The service was excellent (if sometimes too attentive).
Two notes to the owner:
1) My biggest complaint is that the lavash didn’t come hot or with a dip. It was good to have at all (it was free after all), but it would have been that much better if you had provided something besides a pat of ice-cold and rock-hard butter. Maybe some room temp butter or olive oil. It doesn’t need to be an expensive dip like humus, either. Honestly, if there had been no butter at all, it would have attracted less attention to the deficit.
2) My second complaint was that menu pricing was out of date. I was charged $25 for my meal when the posted price was only $22. This really needs to be fixed ASAP as the laws in CA regarding posted prices are nothing to mess around with. Prices change, just make sure they are displayed properly.
I usually take pictures, but one bite and I was hooked! There was nothing left to take a picture of!
