This place is awesome. Been here many times over the years and they have a wide assortment of food for any time of day. I love their breakfast pancakes. The staff is super responsive and friendly. Unless it’s right as they’re opening or a holiday, this place is never truly busy. Not too expensive either. I usually spend around $10-$25 here in total and am in and out within 30-45 mins.
All in all, this is a warm, friendly place to dine either alone, with family, or really any sized group. There’s plenty of booths and seating options available to accommodate you. I’d go so far as to say this is one of the top 3 restaurants in the city of Ames.

Liquid Rock Aquatics
This is probably the most unclean restaurant that isn’t shut down by the health department. While the food was okay, the burger was cooked to death the first time, and unseasoned the second. I don’t know what the hell is going on in the kitchen; fries covered in coarse ground black pepper. The pies were good.

When it comes to trying to pick a favorite staff member it’s impossible. I wave to the cook every chance I get because he always delivers. Locals like to call the Ankeny location “the fancy Perkins” but after eating here for almost every day in the past 6 months they’re wrong. Ames location pays attention to every detail. Serves the most delicious food with the most warm service. I cannot pick a favorite and trust me I know them all. But if I must pick a favorite it’s Andre, because he has as many siblings as I do!!!! Please give them all a raise and a pizza party.

I went to Perkins a few weeks ago and not only was the food incredible, but the service was speedy. Josh specifically went out of his way to make sure we didn’t have just a good experience, but a great one. He was so professional and made us feel like he really cared that we left with a smile on our faces. We will definitely be back soon, especially if Josh will be there! Thanks Josh!

I came in a little after midnight on a Thursday with a hankering for a burger. The server was very talkative and I loved it. We had great conversations until I ate—then, I wasn’t bothered—we chatted over my pie, finally ended up leaving a little after 1 am. I was expecting to feel like an inconvenience because I know working in the service industry that late/early sucks, but the server was so friendly I almost felt like I was just chatting with a friend. Overall, great experience !!

Been going to this Perkins for the last few years. Always have had great service and delicious food. Josh and scuba all the way. Best servers ive ever had. If you like fish definitely try the Fish and shrimp with asparagus. Soooo delicious! 5 stars. Always.

One thing about Perkins, they are consistent. I had a wonderful meal and my server was very professional! I had the Parmesan crusted grilled prime rib sandwich and it was fantastic!!
Visited the location on 5/29/24 and food was just as good and consistent and Anthony, our waiter, was the best! Great job Anthony!!!
Visited this location again today July 3, 2024, again everything was great, Theresa did a great job today and food was good. Only issue: someone brought their dog in and sat it in the booth with them. We were told the district manager didn’t want the workers to say anything because they could leave a bad review. Why would you worry about a bad review for upholding a common courtesy of not bringing dogs into a restaurant??? The district Manager’s decision overshadowed the hard work the workers here do. Dogs don’t belong in a restaurant. PERIOD!!!

JUST THE BEST TIME OF MY LIFE. I fear I will never experience service like this again. I feel safe here. I feel cared for here.
