Shrimp Ceviche with Mango: It had a subtle kick of heat and a deep umami flavor that paired perfectly with the nachos. A great starter.
Medium-Rare Flat iron Steak: Served with grilled leeks, it was perfection—both on its own and with the sauce. What impressed me most was the technique. It wasn’t just a standard sear or reverse sear; the chef used an “on-and-off” grilling method. The cross-section was perfectly uniform with zero gray banding. You can really taste the chef’s skill in the incredibly tender texture.
Fried Gnocchi: The smoky aroma and the savory sauce were outstanding. Since it was my first time having “fried” gnocchi, I initially tried it dry, but Gemini advised me to let it soak in the sauce. This is key! If you eat it dry, it’s a bit firm, but once it’s fully soaked, you get the full experience of the smokiness and the rich meat stock. Trust me, let it soak!
Service & Drinks: They serve beer in a deep-chilled glass, which turns the foam into a light slush—absolutely refreshing. The service here is honestly better than most professional breweries.
Highly recommended for anyone looking for high-level culinary skills and great beer service!
The positives first. The staff was friendly, attentive, and on point throughout the visit. Service felt polished and welcoming. I ordered the Cadillac Margarita and it was excellent. Smooth, well balanced, and easily one of the highlights of the night. The atmosphere also leans toward a higher end cantina feel. Warm lighting, nice decor, and a space that feels like it wants to be elevated.
Then there is the food.
Instead of the usual chips and salsa, they brought out fried Mexican wheat crisps. They were fine, but they felt more like something you would grab at a Hispanic flea market than something you expect at an upscale cantina. Not bad, just unexpected, and a little confusing given the setting.
We ordered the flautas and those were genuinely delicious. Crispy, flavorful, and paired with a generous portion of guacamole that really worked. No complaints there.
The pozole pappardelle had good flavor, but calling it pozole based felt like a stretch. It tasted good, but it did not really hit the mark of what you expect from pozole. The amount of chicken was also pretty light, especially for a $28 dish. At that price point, you expect a more generous portion, and it just was not there.
My wife ordered the chicken tortilla soup and it was very good. That said, it tasted different from the last time she visited. Not necessarily worse, just different. That suggests to me that there may be some variation depending on the day, but the flavors were still solid.
Overall, Perch feels like it is caught in a bit of a food limbo. The atmosphere suggests a higher end experience, but the limited menu and some of the food choices do not fully match that vibe. It is not bad, and there are definitely things done well, but it does not quite come together as a complete experience.
I would go back for drinks and happy hour, but I am still undecided if it fully delivers on what it is trying to be.
The Shrimp Risotto was outstanding—creamy, perfectly al dente rice with sweet, plump shrimp, a whisper of garlic and citrus, and just enough Parmesan to tie it all together. Every bite felt balanced and lux without being heavy. Service matched the food: friendly, attentive, and perfectly timed from first hello to final check. Perch Cantina just earned a spot on my go-to list.
We had Sunday brunch once and 2 different occasions for dinners. I was impressed with the quality of food and drinks. Their tacos are not the authentic tacos that you get from the food trucks. They have a modern twist to it in a positive way. The ambiance is great with perfect lighting and hightop tables and booths. It fits for every occasion. Outdoor space is also great for warmer days. Very interesting menu options for appetizers and mains. The only downside is their side dishes, beans and Mexican rice are just okay. I will definitely come back for HH drinks and tacos.
The restaurant has a happy vibe the moment you walk through the door. Gorgeous!!
The service was fantastic as well!
