Fellow travelers, when in Pittsburgh, please visit Peppi’s Old Tyme Sandwich Shop, a true Pittsburgh staple. Known for its fantastic subs, this location is charmingly decorated with pictures from celebrities that visited the establishment, and local team sports memorabilia.
Please know that this location is cash only but there is a third-party ATM machine inside. We were charged a $2.00 service fee for our transaction.
You can enter the place and grab a seat wherever you like after you order, we recommend sitting near the ordering counter if your party can find the space. The larger dining space was also nice but empty during our visit. We visited on a Tuesday evening and there was plenty of seating space available. Regardless, the friendly staff will bring your food to your table.
Since we were first timers, the staff kindly recommended to focus on the “Hall of Fame” section of the menu, and we loved how every option sounded.
During our visit, we ordered the following:
– Large Cajun Fries
– “Ultra” Cheese Steak
– The Big Wheeler
Our favorite item was The Big Wheeler, we enjoyed the bit of a kick it had. The sandwiches were both tasty, and the Cajun Fries were well seasoned.
The excelent service, menu recommendations and items, down to earth setting, quality sandwiches, and local atmosphere certainly encapsulates the Steel City in the best possible way. Much recommended!

Stopped for a quick late lunch/early dinner today and was incredibly pleased! Friendly, fast service. The other side dining area is so adorable, has that old charm that I love. The church pews for seating really adds to the vibe. And of course the sandwich and fries were delicious!!

Perfect sandwich shop for those in the Pittsburgh area and for first timers. The food is excellent, there is no wonder why celebrities come here as well as repeat locals. They have all the signage to give off a local feel as well as the customer service to cheer you up or meet you where you are at. Prices are reasonable for the big portions, a small fry is good enough to share, plus the ranch cup is big enough too! The only complaint is the size of ordering area, but its probably so there is enough space for seating, which is plenty and clean!
If im ever in the area again, I will most likely be coming back and bringing friends!

Found this place by accident while walking from our Airbnb to the bar. Decided to give it a shot. Ordered our food, three different versions of the sandwhich and sat down while it was being made. It wasn’t too busy and we came in 40ish minutes before it closed. The food was good! I wouldn’t say it was one of the best sandwhiches I’ve had, but I enjoyed it and would come back. I think I needed some sort of extra sauce. But the workers were nice and the place was clean, food was good. Give it a try!

During our couples’ trip, my husband and I, along with my baby sister and her husband, decided to try Peppi’s for lunch based on my brother-in-law’s recommendation. He’s from Pittsburgh, though none of us currently live in the area. Let me just say—we were not disappointed!
The food was absolutely delicious, with generous portions that did not disappoint. We ordered the New Steak Salad, the #7, the Big Nate, the Ultra Cheese Steak, and two orders of cheese fries. Every bite was amazing!
The service was equally impressive. The staff was polite, attentive, and made sure our food came out hot, fresh, and fast. The location itself is great, especially if you’re looking to park and explore, as there are plenty of shops and restaurants nearby.
Peppi’s also has a fun and unique vibe inside, with a mix of chairs and pews for seating and a walk-up counter to place orders at the entrance. We will definitely be back—and honestly, we might just plan another trip to Pittsburgh just for Peppi’s!

Not only are these some of the best subs we have ever had, but this place has one of the coolest atmospheres we have ever experienced. We just moved to Pittsburgh and were looking for our go-to sub place and Peppi’s was recommended multiple times. Walking in and you’re instantly met with real hard-working Pittsburgh people and a culturally rich atmosphere that highlights local celebrities, area history, and all around Pittsburgh pride. All this on top of an incredible sandwich and fries every-time and we have our spot for many years to come. We recommend trying the whole menu over time, but our favorites are the Santucci and the mushroom cheesesteak.
